Burned some gunpowder at the river...

Here's some shots from a private "range". There are a few board members that went as well, but they will have to give the OK to post pics.

Here's a few of me handling my trusty Romanian SAR1 AK47 with 75 round drum.

That is one thing that's fun on my land. Our river is mostly crystal clear, and we always shoot carp as they move by.

What you might call solitude is something i look forward to.

This is Trinity River that comes from Dallas. It's never been clear. When it rains hard, this property floods because it's inside the levee.

What day did you guys go? I work just about every tues. - sat. in the PM now.

Depends on what part of november ... I have a cruise booked for mid Nov.

The Jeep is still good to go ... a few things I should take care of though. I should probably do a water pump, lube the drive train, and fix the loose shock mount. still need to do a head gasket to stop a oil leak but it dosent hurt its performance ... just leaks a crap load when on longer highway trips.

Very nice pic here Matt.

Post away on the others!

I'm loading only vid/pic I took with my iPhone and will post it up in a few.

Had a great time man. Mucho thanks!

BTW - Next time, lets not let your 13 yo son embarrass us elders. Kid's an amazing shot man.

Cheesy quality, but here's Matt shooting the Model `98 Mauser.

Rapid fire in the background is his oldest son shooting the AK.

Matt I am working on emailing you those videos that I took.

We had a great time. I went through 400 rounds of 5.56, 100+ .22 and 20 rounds of match grade .308. I really should have brought more .308. I know for next time though. I still have not figured out why my wife won't shoot in front of other people though, she is a great shot.

Post pics my pics if you can.

Did you get the videos?

Don't bother saving those. I have full res versions that look much better. Those were edited in Lightroom (because of the harsh sun) and then reduced to 40% of the original size.

Some damned good shots though Matt. I could even see my "POS" slinging brass, and it's shadow on my arm.

It is always fun at the river. Private land, only common sense rules, and nobody chewing your a$$ for full auto or bump fire. You can use FMJ all day long.

The only bad thing is the heat. A light breeze would have been nice.

We shoot at stuff that comes floating down the river from Dallas, the occasional gar and turtles, and clay pigeons that we hurl across to the other side of the bank.

You should have seen the items flying out of the river after being shot by a REM 350 round, which reminds me.. CJ, I found two more of your spent shells in my pocket. I'll hold on to them and give them to you next time we meet.

lol
Some of them jumped 25 feet in the air.

I had to laugh at you guy's reaction to the targets jumping in the air. We routinely take 2x4s and cut them into 4" squares. We then hurl them into the river as moving targets. They either split, or jump quite well.

I was getting tickled watching those aluminum miller can/bottles jump 30+ feet. Next time your boy needs to hit them with the 16ga when we kick 'em up like that. That would be some good video and save on clays.

The heat was not that bad once you started to sweat and the litle breeze there was hit you. I damn near drank a gallong of water though.

When I was shooting the .308 it was at around 310-320. Most of the AR shooting was down into the river about 75yrds. I did take some shots at a tree sticking out of the water that was about 250+ away and was nailing it just fine with the AR.

Matt, I just saw that my pic of me shooting the S&W captured two brass cassings in flight.

We were only out there about 3 hours, and the time flew by. I drank 2 bottles of water and 1 bottle of Gatorade, and we stopped at JITB and I had a large Root Beer and STILL didn't have to take a leak until I got home. That means that I didn't drink enough fluids out there.

Oh, and I didn't see the second piece of brass until you made me look for it. Its in the canopy of Jim's sun shade.

I really need to stock up on some .308 ammo and get a few hours of range time with mine. Man it would have been to hot for me out there with no cover. Again, looks like you guys had some fun. Keith you have an incoming PM.
