Went over to Garland yesterday and forgot to put the XM radio back in the truck so I was listening to the KERA Think program (I’m a talk radio junkie) around noon. The topic was concealed carry and the guest was a self described liberal democrat. I thought “this ought to be good and was ready for my blood pressure to go up". The guest, Dan Baum form Boulder, Colorado (think Austin, Texas), actually surprised me with his presentation. Although his reasoning was a bit off on when to carry and a few other areas, the program was very good considering it was on National Public Radio.
He did not see a need to carry in Boulder but did carry in New Orleans and Detroit. He decided that in Boulder he was safe. Sounded more like playing the odds to me. It also reminded me of an old quote from Governor Huey Long of Louisiana: “When I travel around the state I carry a pistol. When I travel to New Orleans I carry two pistols”. New Orleans was a crime shit hole in the 30’s as it is today.
Apparently, he has the cover story in the most recent Harper's Magazine.
"Happiness Is A Worn Gun: My Concealed Weapon and Me."
In any event it was encouraging to hear a liberal democrat positive on guns and I made it out of Garland and rush hour traffic alive.
To Conceal Or Not Conceal
[2010-08-02 12:00:00] What's behind the rapid recent growth of the concealed and open-carry handgun movements? We'll talk this hour with Dan Baum, Harper's Magazine contributor about his August issue cover story "Happiness Is A Worn Gun: My Concealed Weapon and Me."
