Which 1911?

Ok, I've narrowed it down to 2 models for my first 1911. They are both full size, .45 ACP, comparably equipped (as best as a 1911 virgin such as myself can tell) and priced about the same. Which one would you pick and why?

Springfield Armory Loaded Stainless
http://www.springfield-armory.com/as...y_PX9151LP.pdf

Kimber Stainless II

I'm not attaching a poll. I would rather see the actual opinions than the numbers.

I am partial, I own/carry Kimber although the Springer is not a bad gun.
I had the same decision and just posted my choice.

To make things more difficult I'd have to pick that Springfield. That pistol is gorgeous. I must admit, good choice on the two. I love full frame stainless .45's

They're both good guns, and they're both gorgeous guns to boot!!

I'm partial to Springfield, but I've had Kimbers as well. Can't go wrong either way IMO.

Oh snap, looked again, that's the same Springer that I bought my dad for Christmas last year. Excellent pistol, helluva shooter. He absolutely loves it.

Out of those two I would choose the Springfield.

But if it were me I would pick up a Colt XSE.

Either/or have an excellent reputation. It's up to you as to what brand name you want to sport.

Only difference I can see is the Kimber states "Match grade barrel" and the Springfield doesn't. I can't say if that would be a deal breaker for me though. That Springfield is a gorgeous piece.

That said, I would probably opt for the Kimber, but only because I own one and have never shot that particular Springer.

Either way, nice guns.

edit: If you want to shoot a Kimber, just let me know and I'll meet up with you and let you shoot mine. Not the exact same model (Gold Match II) but they're pretty close.

I appreciate the offer. I've shot examples from both brands and both were great shooters. I didn't shoot them on the same range trip, but it seemed the trigger on the Kimber was a bit crisper than the Springfield. I don't know if it had any work done to it.

Either one is very nice. Since I have a couple of Kimbers, I'd go with the Springer just for variety.

Either one of those pistols are gonna be badass. If you get the Springer, the Kimber squirrels will bitch and vice versa.

I haven't completely ruled out other brands, but I know I'm not concerned about valuation in the future. If it were an investment, I'd get the Colt, but I want to shoot the hell out of whatever I get.

Not the same model as mine. That one actually looks nicer than mine does with its black insets and grips...

I hear you, but the Colts really do it for me, and the price is on par with kimber or springfield. You can get an xse with or without the rail too.

I dig the rail on my Springfield.

Matt, that is a sharp looking Kimber.

I think the rail looks out of place on a full size but actually fits in on the shorter barreled models. The rail on Matt's Pro TLE/RL II doesn't look bad at all. It almost looks like it belongs. Same thing with NTexas_V-Star's Lightweight Champion Operator.

I would agree that it looks good on the shorter firearms, but I don't like it on the long barreled versions.

Can't go wrong either way, I have a Colt, Kimber and love them both. I have shot a few springers and they performed just as good as the others.

What reasons do you have to not like the Kimbers?
Just curious as you are literally the first person I have heard say that.....
I have heard others say they like one over the other, but never that they just flat do not like a Kimber.

I bet if it was not the owners gun, blindfolded most would not be able to tell the difference firing the same framed Kimber, Springer, Colt.

Well first of all, I think they are overpriced for what they are. You can get a comparable Springfield or Colt for less or the same price, and I guarantee the performance would be the same. I shot one and it wasnt anymore accurate than my Colt. I also dont like the funky razor like designs on the slides, and the far reaching hand guards on them. I dunno, to me it seems like they made an old tried and true design too abstract. I like the plain old 1911 design. Thats just me.

to me the kimbers grip is not the same as most other 1911's.its like it is wider from the front to rear of the grip.i have small hands so its not comfortable to me.the springers, colts, and paras fit like a glove.

It is exactly the same. 1911 grips are standard throughout the brands...

I definitely see a Kimber in my future. I'd like to have a 3.5-4" barrel for carry though. Not sure if I would like conceal carrying a 5" barrel.

This 1911 won't be a carry gun except around the house. It will be my "BBQ Gun" carried in a holster similar to the link below. I'll get a 3.5" or 4" later for carry.

http://www.dillonprecision.com/conte...e_1911_Holster

I was looking at Sporting Arms's website and requested a price on the Kimber. Without night sights, it's $766, $863 with. The Springfield is $780, but I don't know if it has night sights. I guess it will come down to that. If the Springer has NS, I'll buy it. If not, I'll get the Kimber that has them.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that it does. I seem to remember my dad's having them on it when we got it.

I'll carry my full size Kimber .45 but it is a chore to pull off, especially when I load the extended 10 rnd mag.

Walking/standing etc.. are not too dificult but sitting or driving is the real issue. I've already scarred my leather seats in my truck a little from getting in while carrying.

What kind of holster do you use ? I'd like to get a new holster for my XD .40.

What's a good OWB conceal/carry holster ? I currently carry with an IWB but since I've put on some weight it's not as comfortable as it used to be.

Currently, the only one I have is a Bianchi Professional Series IWB. Just something I picked up at Cabella's on the quick. Certainly more choices out there, especially if you plan on carrying OWB.

You'll get tons of suggestions on what's a good "OWB" etc.. holster though. Best thing to do is ask what others use and then go check them out and see if you like the feel, and how it clips/attach's. OWB in a full size 1911 is kind of hard to conceal too.

Ok, another question on this debate has arisen.

Do both Kimber and Springfield use the Schwartz safety mechanism?

Kimber yes, but don't believe Springfield does.

Could be wrong though.

It doesn't look to be an issue, but also looks like it could be removed fairly easily.

I guess I'm leaning more toward a Kimber now. I've expanded the options to include a Custom TLE II and an Eclipse Custom II as they are still less than $1k from Sporting Arms.

Thoughts?

All in stainless of course.

From a purely cosmetic standpoint, those Eclipse Custom II"s are dead sexy pistols.

Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to kill them.

Of those two... Eclipse.

Both are nice pieces, but you just can't go wrong with that gun.
