Kimber is leaps and bounds better than Para, but if the price was right, I'd own a Para.

I don't like Colt because years ago they folded (in some ways) to the gun control lobby's demands and went PC.

I won't own a Colt 1911 or rifle. The only exception is if I could find a WWII era Colt, I'd buy it.

You should check out STI.

My roommate just picked up an STI Spartan, and it is a really nice gun. And to top it off, they are right here in Texas. He traded a Norinco SKS in a Tapco poly stock and $50 bucks for itHELL of a deal.

They have models anywhere from $600-$2000 and up, so pretty much anything you'd want you can get.

I have one that was mfd in 1920. Little earlier in the chain. Could be talked out of it...

And Kimber for sure. Didn't know that about Colt, always liked them til I read this. Link?

My other 1911 is a Springfield and it's a pretty damned nice sidearm...

I'd say we need more specifics as to what you're looking for? What size do you want? Full size or officers grip? 3", 4", 4.25" or 5" barrel? Steel or lightweight? What type of sights? Since you list Kimber and Para, I'm guessing you're not looking for a GI model? Are you looking for US made?

I voted Kimber. If I was buying one today and had those three to choose from, that's what I'd go with.
The only 1911 I own is a Colt. It was manufactured in 1965, my Dad bought it new and it is the first firearm I ever fired.
It has WELL over 5000 rounds through it at this point and is still as tight as ever and still can shoot 2.5~3" groups at 25 yards. I will never, ever part with it.

First, please don't just tuck anything in your waistband. Research, then buy a proper holster so you don't have any problems or issues.

The ProCarry II and the Defender are two completely different things. If you're looking for a concealed weapon in the commander size, I'd recommend either a Colt lightweight commander or Smith & Wesson's version of the lightweight commander. Both come with a 4.25" barrel and use aluminum parts to lighten the load.

If you like the smaller Defender size, the STI Escort is also a nice option. When you drop down to the 3" barrel you get a lot more muzzle flip. That's a big factor on the range, but if you're busy defending yourself, I could really care less how much the muzzle flips as long as the bad guy leaves me alone.

Then we can get into how you're going to carry. IWB, OWB, shoulder harness, tuckable? Standard grip, officers grip, bobtail grip?

Personally, my vote is buy one of each. Because you can't own just one 1911.

What about the Taurus? Don't knock it until you have shot it. It has every feature as the Kimber, Wilson Combat, Springfield etc for half the price. This is my daily carry.

You can get a Kimber ultra carry II for less than 700 used.

I'd personally not buy a new gun, it's like driving a new car off the lot. You won't make that money back.

Best out of the three? Kimber, which is what I own.
There are much better custom 1911s out there though depending on budget.

Nope, has to go through an FFL.
Typically add $10-$30 on top for the FFL fees, but is usually cheaper then the tax you would pay locally.

The Ultra Carry II is a GREAT pistol. I don't own one but have shot several. They are surprisingly accurate for a compact and absolutely reliable.

That is the exact gun I own, and carry.

I personally like the 3" for carry, and with the Kimber I have not noticed any accuracy lost up to 20y compared to my 5"

And sorry, to answer your question, yes they are both decent deals. The UCII is $825 through Buds
SAW has decent prices as well + tax, but no wait, and no hassle dealing with an FFL.

I've got both of these guns in slightly different models (the TLE RLII and the Ultra Carry with night sights and Crimson Trace laser). The UC is better for carry, but the Compact is the better overall gun in balance and accuracy.

You can take a pretty good look at it and be able to spot most (any?) major issues before buying. Either way, new or used, you should run several boxes of ammo through it before it becomes your carry weapon.

Cool beans. I can also bring a S&W 686, but you'll never look at another 1911!

Voted for the Kimber as well as it's the one 1911 I've had the most experience with. First experience with a 1911 was a Colt Series 70 Government Model. Not sure how reliable it was but I've shot the Kimber quite a bit and I've never had a problem with it even with the external extractor that I've heard is problematic.

That's easily remedied with a quick breakdown and inspection.

Oh, and my vote = Kimber (but that's somewhat biased).
