Anybody know the law or laws for building a private shooting range?

Looking to build a shooting range at my house. I live in the county, but don't know all the laws to build one. I have searched the internet but no luck.

How much land, and how close are the neighbors?

Check with your local Sheriff. It cant be any different than being able to just shoot on your own land.

I read somewhere a while back about EPA and what not being involved in allowing ranges to be opened. It has to do with the lead content the land will be exposed to.

NOW if you are just marking off a KD and using it for private (not charging) use and it is within the city ordinance to be able to discharge a firearm you should be okay.

We have our own range on our property although we have 100 acres with no neighbors either. I do know we're liable for anything that fly's over the fence line and if we we're to move we'd be responsible of removing all lead contamination caused.

Right now its only a pistol/shotgun range set up for side by side shooting fun. Although plans are to put in a skeet field already have the throwers just need to bulldoze a flat pour concrete for each station and build the hi/lo house's. We're also thinking about putting in at least 100yd rifle range but that's last priority.

i believe i heard my x father in law say you must own 10+ acres at one time because i was asking if i could shoot on his land (had 5 acres). he didnt mind he was just letting me know what the law was and told me to shoot at something solid and away from closest houses.

Definetly find some solid WRITTEN info from your city/county.

We've all -heard- a lot of shit, but most of us don't know shit about the formalities on this sort of thing.

I want to just set up a small area for hand guns, and small rifle (22 for my kids). I only have 2.5 acres in Denton County. I have a range down the road to shot long range.

Found out from the local JP, and a Denton County Sheriff, that I live in an "unincorporated area", which basically means I can shoot on my property as long as I do not open a public range and charge to shoot.

The 10 acre rule only applies if you are in an incorporated/annexed part of a county correct? I only have an acre and a half and before there were houses behind me we used to shoot skeet all day long. Dick down the street called the sheriff and they said they had to come out because he called, but as long as the property owner behind us did not care then it was legal.
