gun NOOB question

ok so i have a fairly old Remington 1100 30" barrel 12ga. how would i go about determining the value of it and then selling it. im really in the market for another handgun or even an assault rifle but not really a big shot gun person. the gun is just about in mint condition especially for as old as it is and the barrel is a smooth barrel not with the ridge on top like they make now a days.

sorry about the crappy iPhone pics

Sight unseen, I'd say $350-$400. That's about average for ones in very good shape. There are always factors that can boost the value, but not by a lot.

Be careful if you get one of those nasty assault rifles. Those things kill people!

Yeah, they higher end ones usually only go for maybe $600. Like I say though, if it's got something special (old, unusual factory configuration, mint condition, fancy scrolling on the receiver, etc.), it could very well be on the higher end of the scale. 90% of them are in the $350-$400 range though.

yea thats what ive been doing...apparently i have what looks like the pre-87 1100 Field model, 30inch barrel without the vent rib standard 2-3/4 12ga. needs to be cleaned up and a couple of white scuff marks removed from the butt but i think i could get a good amount out of it.

does anyone know what to use to clean the scuff marks off the wood??

PM 5.0_CJ, He's the man when it comes to cleaning up firearms.

Based on the pictures, I'd say it's probably in the $450+ category. That's a nice looking 1100.
The scrolling looks like what they introduced in 1979, I could be wrong though.
If you wanna find the manufacture date, go to this site...

Wow, in either case then, I'd say it worth more. $600-$700 maybe.

You could try the classifieds here, http://www.gunbroker.com/ , http://www.texasguntrader.com/ or take it to a gun show.
Just like selling anything, ask for more than you'll take, you know people will talk you down.
I've had pretty good luck selling and/or trading at gun shows.
For a schedule... http://www.aubreyturner.org/gunshows...shows/details/

Looks like it is probably a '70s model. Still a very nice, and desireable shotty...
Here is one for sale that you can gauge your year and price from.

Pretty sure now it's an 81 model. I'm going to call Remington to verify. The barrel is smooth without the vent rib but I don't know if that means anything. I'll update my for sale thread once I
certain what I have exactly
