Favorite hunting round

Justwondering what everyone's favorite hunting rounds are. I have a few .30-06, .22-250 and may soon build a 7mm-08 A.I.

My go to gun is 7-08
Picking up my 22-250 Friday for a backup in the stand to kind of replace the .17hmr

Do they have 7-08 AI brass or do you have to fire form it yourself?

Fire form it, its not that big of a deal though. According to the gunsmith a few grains of a certain powder and done.

The .338-06 would be easier on meat, it seems the slower moving bullets damage less than the high velocity rounds which turn the meat into jello and the bigger slower stuff just punches a big hole.

.50 beowulf.

I hated doing the butchering and quartering at camp, so I just get it done right from the start.

.308 for me. My dad had one that he bought when he was in his teens for $100 bucks from some dude who needed rent money.

Now it's sitting in my closet...I love that gun. Killed my first deer with it, when I was around 13 or so. Actually, every deer I've ever killed was with that gun.

Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to kill them.

Plenty of knock down, doesn't quite hurt your shoulder like a 7mm.

majority of my hogs and deer have been killed with a 308, great round. This year I'll be carrying my 7-08 encore pistol or the wifes .243 encore rifle. Still based off the 308 though

I'm down for my M77 in 30-06. You can load up or down depending on the game. It'll shoot farther than I can! Most of the deer I killed were within 150 yards. Started shooting them in the neck when I got a little older. Farthest was about 375 yards. A little luck involved there, standing, resting against a tree.

While I am a big fan now of 45-70, I still like my 30-30 and 7mm Mauser. I got my Winchester 94 in 1963 and the Mauser in 1964. They have taken most anything they were pointed at. I also have a Savage 250 that does a good job as well.

My father in law hunted with a Savage 250-3000 most of his life and sold it. He said that is one of the guns he wish he held on too...

I've been shooting my cousin's A-Bolt in 7mm-08, but my Stevens 200 build is back on, and I'm going with .260 for an all-arounder. If anyone wants a bargain, SA Stevens 200's are $200 at Academy. You cannot buy a better gun with more potential for less money.

Give me a dollar.

Depends on the hunt. Coyotes all i have is a .223 ar. For deer in Kansas its a .243, and for Iowa deer im going to pick up a 308. The 243 can be a little hell on the coyotes from what i remember when my dad hunted them. Main reason i went with the ar. Its not going to win a contest but it'll get the job done. I'm still working on my calling skills

Call me lazy but i like being able to walk into any shithole store and find some ammo i can use.

What you might call solitude is something i look forward to.

I'll grab which ever I feel like shooting with consideration of how far of a shot I think I may have to take. 8mm Mauser, .45-70, .308, or .257 Roberts.

My brother in law is building his wife a 22-250 off a 7-08 Stevens 200 from Academy.
Had a custom helical fluted barrel made for it, fluted the bolt, and is waiting for the stock right now.

That's badass. I think I'll end up with a, "poor man's M24," more or less, and my shooting partner is essentially cloning an M40. We're going to start doing practical rifle/steel safari competitions. I'm going with an adjustable buttpad DIY Woodchuck stock from Stockade (they'll inlet it for the factory Savage DBM), a Timney or Riflebasix trigger, and a 26" stainless bull barrel. All my splurging is going to be scope money.

Give me a dollar.

You might want to look into .280 AI as an option betters the 7mm rem mag in short action with less powder and recoil. A plus for it is Nosler even makes brass allready formed.

I'll look into it, thanks.

EDIT: .280 AI is a long action cartridge, so it's out.

7mm Mag with 120gr Nosler BT for varmints like coyote.
.223 AR with 50gr HP bulk for deer.

But this year, I am switching and using 139gr Hornady SST in 7mm Mag for deer and 55gr Nosler BT with AR for varmints.

I know this is right, I bought one new way back, was worse then my 12 gauge slug gun. Traded for a used Rem, and life was good.

30-06 for deer and pigs.
12 gauge rifled barrel w/sabots for public hunts.
7.62x39 for rabbits.
