S&W revolver experts in here

I have a cop buddy wanting to trade me his used and in need of some TLC 637-2 for one of my P-3ATs. The Kel-Tec is brand new but I only paid 249.00 for it.

I've always been a semi-auto kinda guy but I'm really getting into revolvers. He flat out hates revolvers and this one was a gift from his department.

The bore looks good and I don't see anything that screams run away.

Like I said the .38 needs some TLC as it appears to have just been shot and forgot about most of the time. There seems to be some peeling on top and some holster wear.

Does this sound like a decent trade? I've conditionally agreed to the trade pending research on the 637-2. I have some reservations as I've read where these particular models had some issues years ago. This one is approx. 4 years old.

Sorry for the crappy phone pic.

Thanks for the quick response.

Off topic, I saw your banned list the other day so I went to check out the texas hunting forums. They're quite a sensitive bunch over there

That they are, hell I am a member of a forum that is worse than that when it comes to language but they allow me to call people out now and again when a deal goes sour.

Take the deal or pass it along to someone else. J frames are GREAT guns for carry and you will not go wrong on this deal.

Tell your cop buddy that he needs to learn to appreciate J frame S&Ws. Hell, he should be carrying 2 of them along with his duty weapon. What is his normal B.U.G.?

True that. I carry a Model 60 in .357 Mag daily. Great little gun!

Just need to clean it up a bit, replace the grip screw with something that won't rust (my 2009 642-2 does it too) and you're good to go. Definitely worth more than the Keltec.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm making the trade tomorrow. Now all we need is a range GTG so we can all show off just how bad of a shot we actually are.

You have been given good advice.

You could easily sell that thing cleaned up for $325 minimum.

What ever happened to the sweet little S&W?

You should take it and go have a gunsmith bob the hammer if you are going to conceal carry it.

When something sounds too good to be true...

He became non-commital and I wasn't going to push the issue that we had an agreement.

I'll just pick one up tomorrow at the gun show. I saw chief special airweights at the FW Gun Show for under 400

I most definitely will get the hammer bobbed off.

Just buy a 642/442 and you wont have to get it bobbed.

I may get the LCR if I find them for the same prices I found at the last show.

I think I paid $449 for my 642 at Bullet Trap back in July. Academy has them for $479.

I'd say we both did ok. I could have picked up a 637 or 642 for a few bucks more but I really like this LCR. The wife wants a j frame now though.

Me too! I caught the wheel gun bug a few months ago. Now my wife has it.

The lcr is nice to carry. I think this will be my main carry for a while.

Thanks! Let's see yours.

I picked up a WRB pocket holster for 20 bucks. It's pretty nice and doesn't slide at all.

That pretty much describes it. My wife really liked the 642 today. She wants to shoot the LCR and make sure she really wants the J frame. She carries a P-3AT currently.

Is the LCR really a polymer frame?

Yep. I'm right with ya on it too. My 642 is light enough.

Well so far so good. This is my first wheelgun so it will take a little getting used to. It is very light. I'd say that it is actually too light. The trigger pull is really nice though. Overall it's pretty dang nice. I do wish that the original deal would have gone through because now I really want a 637!

The wife loves the LCR but was really impressed with the J frames so I'm sure we'll be picking one up soon enough. I think she'll end up carrying this one.

If you like the 637, then DON'T YOU DARE CLICK ON THIS LINK:

http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...layErrorView_Y

It is the S&W 340PD. It is a J-frame 5-shot revolver in .357 Magnum that weighs in at 11.4 ounces! I have a co-worker that has one, and I'd LOVE to have one.

I was going to post a link to this gun a few days ago, but the S&W site was down. The finish is durable and they are comfortable to shoot even in my bear paws.

That's suggested retail. They can be had new for $800ish.

I have a self-imposed $600 limit on handguns and prefer to stay around $400.

That will get you a XD Sub Compact, J Frame .38 or LCR and various pocket autos.

If I was going to spend that much I'd get a S&W .500 just for the fun of it.

1. You are just a beginner. Re-evaluate that statement in a year or so.

2. Have you ever shot a .500 S&W Magnum? I have, and I'll tell you it wasn't for the fun of it. That shit hurt.

I wasn't being serious. I was making the point that I don't spend that kind of money on handguns. I have no use for a weapon like that.

Like I said before I'm an autoloader guy and a pretty decent shot but this is my first wheelgun experience. The largest caliber wheelgun I would ever purchase would be a .357 and am quite content with 9mm in the autoloaders.

I think my post got convoluted.

What I meant by #1 was wait a year and see if you get hooked. Then you won't mind spending more coin on a gun.

I have a friend that has a TON of guns, and he has a .500 S&W. He made some hot handloads for it and had me shoot it with me believing it was factory ammo.

I weigh in at 225 and it pushed me back and hurt. My hands were tingling for a few minutes after I fired off all 5 rounds.

I think a .500 would be the ultimate concealed carry gun for Shaq. If someone lives in an area where there are lots of large bears than I could see the practicality of one.

Took the 340pd and the LCP both loaded and compared how they felt and how they weighed. The 340pd wins hands down.

That's the difference when you are paying twice for the S&W. You could have one S&W or two Rugers.

My wife bought this for herself yesterday at Bullet Trap. They're having a kick ass sale right now.

What exact model is that and how much?

What kind of sale are they having, do they have a website?

http://www.bullettrapinc.com/ The site doesn't mention the sale.

It's a 442 and it was $329. Compared to the gun shows we thought it was a good deal.

A lot of defense ammo was 30% off, too.

Took it out today and I'm not sure which one I like more the S&W or the LCR. The trigger is nice on the LCR but the 442 is great! We had fun with both.

They don't have their sale listed though. We just happened to be in the area.

It was $150 off of Sigs. $150 off of XDs blue 4 inch. $100 off of most 1911s.

Hell, there was a Taurus CIA for $249 and while I'm sure that's a good deal I'm just too new to the wheelguns!

I used to balk at Taurus, but they have EXCELLENT customer service.

I bought a 5 shot .357 revolver off the board and the cylinder stop was broken.

I sent it in and the fixed it and sent it back without a hitch.

I think I'm going to call and see if the sale is still going on. If so, I may go get that C.I.A. as a gift for my brother.
