Friend had an AD

He's okay though. He just recently got his CHL, and Saturday was his first day carrying.

When he got home, he went in the bathroom, away from the wife/kids, and was checking out the fit of his holster; basically, checking for any bad printing in the mirror.

For whatever reason, he decided to attempt to pull his pistol and his holster out at the same time, and BOOM!

He came in my office this morning, set his holster in front of me, then tossed me his wallet. He had a .357SIG round pass through the end of his holster, through his shorts, then all the way through his wallet, then out the pocket of his shorts and into the tile floor of his bathroom.

Essentially, he narrowly avoided shooting himself in the ass.

He was using a cheap Blackhawk fabric holster IWB that has a narrow, plastic clip on it. He's learned a big lesson from all this, and is starting today to look into a good Crossbreed.

Just thought I'd share.

I taught him nothing!

THe only thing I did was educate him about CHL, not about gun safety. He's my dad's age, and an avid hunter. I assumed he knew better. At any rate, he does now.

That's what I told him. Part of the blame goes to his selection of a cheap holster, IMO. I wear a fabric holster that has a wide metal clip. I mean WIDE.

His had a narrow plastic clip. It was narrow enough that it didn't cover the trigger, and apparently in an effort to maintain his grip on the holster and gun, he pushed in, into the trigger guard and snagged it.

I have never, in years and years of shooting had an AD. Treat them all as if they are loaded.

I had an AD when I was 16. I was goofing off with an old target rifle in my room. I put a full clip in and pulled the bolt back. When I slid the bolt back into place, the round that got chambered went off and shot a hole in my ceiling. From that day forward, I have never chambered a round in any gun that I didn't intend to fire right then.

I had one as well around the same age. I was lowering the hammer on a 1911 on a chambered round (should have lowered it to a half cocked position) and my finger slipped and it went off. This was on an old Series 70 or 60 Colt Government Model that my dad had. Fortunately I was thought to always point it in a safe direction and I was outdoors at my family's property and had it pointed into one of the fishing ponds we had there. Scared the shit out of my and learned from it.

I've never had one either, I witnessed one in which a friend of mine blew a large hole in the living room ceiling of his dad's house with a 12 gauge. I learned from it.

It didn't hurt that my dad also drilled gun safety into me at an early age; breaking habits by getting slapped on the back of the head......ahhh, memories.

I've had an AD before at the range. Got carried away and thought I fired 15 rounds, turned out it was 14 and for some reason I didn't notice that the slide wasn't locked back. Dropped my mag and pulled the trigger as I was setting everything down to reload. The round went down range luckily since I'm not a complete dumbass.

Never had an AD. Although one time when I was sighting in a hunting rifle I was aiming it downrange through the scope and laid my finger on the trigger in preparation to fire. I guess I wasnt used to the light trigger pull yet (new rifle), but the fucker went off when I wasnt ready for it and the scope smacked me pretty good above the eye. Gave me a good sized gash and I spent the remainder of the day with a mcdonalds napkin crudely fashioned to my head.

My cousin, who is a probation officer, had a AD. The round hit the floor then ricocheted into his wifes thigh.

that's not necessarily true.

I was working on a customers MKIII Luger, and it discharged when I racked the slide (customer rebuilt it wrong, firing pin was extended). Thank goodness for a sam's club pickle jar and fruit juice pitcher - saved my corvette.

I had a new to me SKS-M and had 30 ADs happen REAL fast after I chambered the first round. The firing pin was stuck from cosmoline and the first round slam fired; the following 29 did the same. Thank god I was alone in the woods and had the rifle pointed where I wanted the bullets going. Needless to say I went home and detail stripped the gun and cleaned the hell out of it.

After it happened I tried to figure out how to build an open bolt fixed firing pin SKS but I didn't really put much time into it. Would be a nice toy for screwing around with when in another country because I would never dream of making something like this to use in the USA.

Open bolt SKS in international waters FTW

I once had a 9mm ar15 that functioned via a very simple blowback method. I thought about how easy it would be to fix the firing pin and just use the bolt catch as the trigger mechanism. You could get really sophisticated with it and rig the trigger group to toggle the bolt catch.

I had an AD once while hunting when I was a teenager. I was carrying a .308 that had in internal magazine (to load and unload you had to open the bolt). As my father and I were walking up to the truck I started to move the rifle to grab the bolt to unload it and BOOM! Blew a nice chunk of dirt up within about 6 inches of one of the truck tires. To this day I'm not sure what I did.

All was well since I had it pointed in a safe direction but had I hit that tire he would have been PISSED!
