Cheap .308 target ammo?

So I bought a Savage 110 from Jedi a while back (actually this is the second time I've bought it from him ) and I'm wanting to hit up the range sometime soon and need to pick up some cheap target ammo. What's my best option for cheap ammo I can shoot at any of the local ranges? I'll be shooting at 100 yards and also can't use FMJ (at least at most local ranges). Thoughts?

Speaking of FMJ, is there any reason I can't shoot it through this rifle? I'm ignorant with how different barrel twists and different ammo affect each other.

That Bitterroot Valley is the cheapest brass match stuff available. I would not think you'd want to shoot steel case soft points thru your bolt action rifle...

I have the same rifle and for whatever reason it won't shoot well with anything but Federal Match 168 grain.

Since you can't shoot FMJ the cheapest shells are going to be Winchester or Remington. Walmart or Academy is your best bet.

You can shoot FMJ all day long through your gun. Most ranges will not allow it because their insurance wont allow it to be shot on their range. Their insurance believes FMJ will bounce and go all over the place. To a certain extent they are right, but shooting into a good backstop its just going to get caught.

I'd only shoot brass case ammo out of your gun. The steel cased russian stuff has a habit of getting stuck in a bolt action gun.

The cheapest stuff you're going to find is probably Federal Corelok's. (Unless you know a reloader that you can TRUST).

Yeah, but he can't use FMJ's at his local rifle range.

That Bittervalleyroot match .308 may be good to use to get you on paper, but I would suggest the Federal match .308 to dial in. CTD has a ton of both. I'm not sure if MGS has Federal match.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I know to stay away from steel case ammo and stick with brass. I'll keep an eye out at Walmart to see what they carry there. I know the last time I checked a couple of weeks ago they only had one box of .308, I'll start looking out for it now.

Sniper Central has HSM match loads on the cheaper side. Also, if Black Hills has reloads in .308, it's probably not too high.

Give me a dollar.

So I picked up some Winchester 150 Grain Power-Point Super X ammo over the weekend at Walmart for $17.97. Is that a pretty good price?

Its ok, but its not the most accurate. Its just an all around hunting round.

Flat Nose lead tipped bullets are NOT really accurate. But does wonders to animals.

If you want accuracy, go out and buy hollow points, nosler style bullets, etc...

I've shot .70" three shot groups with that ammo but all rifles will shoot it different.
