Just put a rifle on layaway

It's a Rossi .243 single shot. Came with a scope (BSA 3-9x 40mm)

Cheap little gun, I got it for 225 plus tax. Impulse deal, saw it, liked it, and put it on layaway within 30 minutes, lol.

I've been wanting something in a .243 or similar caliber in a shorter overall length, and when I saw this, it felt right. Especially with as naturally as the scope comes up to my eye. Perfect eye relief.

Anyways, the funny part, after I put it on layaway, I came back to the office and looked on Rossi's website.....it's a youth model! Couldn't care less though, it's pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

Opinions on Rossi, anybody?

Do you usually have to pay a fee/interest on layaway?

Had to put 25% down and have it paid off in 30 days.

I gotcha, so its not like a loan where you end up paying more than you would if you straight up buy your item.

Hell to the yea!

The place next door to where I work has it, they're a pawnshop/new & used gun dealer. I don't have to pay any fees or interest there, since I work next door to them and use our forklifts to help them move shit almost every day.

I had a spare 20 bucks on me when I saw it, so I just threw that down.

I'll get it paid off here in a week or two.

Most places don't charge any kind of interest or fees on layaways anyways. That's the point of layaway.

Rossi's are pretty much hit or miss on accuracy. They are either really good or really bad. Break open rifles in general tend to have accuracy problems because the breech face does not contact the cartridge EXACTLY the same every time. A quick function check is to see how much play is in the action.

1. break the rifle open, it should be stiff and require some effort to get it open. If it opens easily, not a good sign. If it falls open on its own weight, walk away.
2. Check for side to side "wiggle". If it has any with the action open, not a good sign. If it has any with the action closed, RUN away.

The only difference between a Rossi youth model and standard is the length of the stock. Youth is shorter. If the stock fits - great. If not, try a slip on recoil pad to lengthen the stock a little.

Is it me or is 225 a little high for that?

I just googled it and that is a cool rifle for sure, but seems to be going for as little as 150 in some places.

Rossi's website showed around 260 for MSRP, without a scope. Mine came with a scope, for 225 + tax.

I feel like I got a decent deal, since it was new, never fired.

Yea, BSA 3-9x 40mm tube.....50-60 bucks I guess. Not a great piece of glass, but I think it'll do what I want for now.

Stick to real light bullet weights. When I worked at Academy three came back for accuracy issues. Check the bases, rings, and scope. Rossi shot a 4-5" group at 25 ft and said accuracy checked out. They were kind enough to return the target. I have heard if you shoot the 55-70 gr rounds accuracy can be a bit better.

Some however swear by them and say they shoot great. It could be hit or miss but heck for the money you could have done worse. The BSA scope isn't much.

I'm gonna stick to some 53 grain loads I came across. This gun is gonna be my 200 yard and less gun.

Next project(s) will be saving up to put some serious glass on the .308, and possibly picking a Springfield 4" 1911 I posted about a week or so ago.

Yep, I'm at the rock yard right next door, C&L Natural Stone.

I've bought a handful of new handguns there, a few rifles (new and used) and a shotgun once.
