You used to get the saltpeter from the local mom and pop grocery store.
It's used for pickling.
The old lady running the register knew exactly what we were up to and grilled us to no end. It wasn't much longer they stopped carrying it.
I forget where we got the sulphur from. I think it came from the drug store for skin ailments.
Then, of course, charcoal brickets.
