Any input?

You'll need a master armorer wrench, do you have one?

yes, do you have any small punches? I don't think I have one small enough to knock the pin out of the forward assist. Stock handguards or free float? Do you have a bench vise?

It isn't that difficult, however you will want a vise block that fits in the mag well so you can work on it. Putting the upper receiver into a vise with a towel around it can cause you to crack it when you get it tight. However, you can do it. First thing would be to remove the barrel, then work on the dust cover and forward assist.

I've got a vice block, it also keeps from warping the reciever. I don't have a vice available right now or the small punches needed to take of the forward assist, gas tube and front sight tower........

sure. we need a vice to hold the vice block also. Also need to remove the gas tube which is pinned to the frt sight tower. I am pretty sure we can get the tube off and on without pulling the sight tower, it has been a while since I did this with a stock sight tower......have to pull the gas tube because it goes thru the barrel nut.

My grandpa found a small punch. I'm gonna swing by and see if it's small enough. Shoot me your number and I'll give you a call if we can meet up.
