Colt Compact or Kimber Ultra .45

I was up at Cabelas in Ft.Worth yesterday getting my b-day gift and I was at the gun counter, I've only ever owned one .45 it was a Ruger P-90 it was years ago, I only shot about 50 rounds through it and I sold it, I wasn't very impressed by it but I believe it was the gun itself, even though I owned a Ruger P-89 9mm I sold it too (jammed alot). The guns just seemed too be too big and bulky, but yesterday that Colt was like 'BUTTER' in my hands and then I got ahold of the Kimber, it's lighter and black while the Colt was SS. The Colt felt great the kimber almost felt too light for a .45 but it was sweet, actually both were badass.

Also the $800.00 + price tag was the only reason I didn't buy either, for that kind of money I can buy a nice Rock River plinker, damn decisions!

For that kind of money you won't be able to touch a Rock River Arms 1911...I think you mean Rock Island Armory.

Personally, if I had to decide between those 2 guns, I think I'd go with the Colt just because it's SS. I have too many all black guns at the moment.

I have a Colt and a Kimber , both in full size, and if I had the choice I'd buy a compact Kimber. My choice is kinda biased cause I want the smaller version of my CDP and the fact that Colts compact isn't offered in .38 Super.

I own 5 Kimbers and one Colt, the Kimbers to me are just a better package, but I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I have a Kimber Tactical Ultra but have owned a Colt too. It was a full size frame though so i can't comment on the compact version. I love the Kimber but would love a compact Colt too.

I would take the kimber, they really figured out how to make a 3" 1911 work well...

I have the Kimber Ultra and its a great gun... I'm sure the Colt is also but I'd compare the features and see which one gives more...

he wasn't clear about it now was he? If he's talking about an AR, then yeah, he can get an RRA for about that, maybe a little more.

Now that I surf the RRA site again, do they even make 1911s anymore? I have one of their catalogs from a couple of years ago and it has 1911s in the back starting at $1,500 and as much as $2,400.

I was looking at both of those pistols tonight as well. Both are very nice and look awesome but the Kimber to me was more comfortable to hold.

I know you said Colt or Kimber, but have you looked at Taurus or Springfield? Both are great guns but about $300 cheaper

I blieve he is talking about compacts and in that case Springfield does make one but it costs just as much.

Flip a coin. Both are great guns, but I'm partial to stainless because they last forever. I've carried my stainless Smith for over 10 years and even after thousands of rounds, you can't tell that there is any wear on the frame/slide. I have seen aluminum framed guns that show wear.

I'm not saying that you will literally wear out an aluminum framed gun, but I'd rather have it a long, long time.

The Colt Defender was in my list of choices when I was buying my 1911, I went with the stainless Ultra Carry Kimber and would make the same decision again.
