Can an FFL charge tax on their service?

Example: Buying a firearm from an out of state private seller. FFL fee cost X, are they able to charge sales tax on top of X?

I assumed services were untaxable.

No they can not charge sales tax. You didn't buy it from them.

Okay, good to know.

I was charged 35 for the FFL transfer, I called all the places around me and each was 35, so was okay with that.

Subtotal: 35.00
Sales tax: 2.89
Total: 37.89

They can't charge sales tax on the GOODS, but the FFL transfer SERVICE is taxable as services are taxable in Texas.

And after looking a little on Google: Check 3rd post down.

You paid too much. There is a FFL off Harwood and 121 area for $15 non chl and $10 chl. I believe thats your neck of the woods. His name is Jeff. I can find his contact info if you need it.
