Intense m4 test

http://atwar.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/...-m4a1-guns/?hp

Crazy test of the current m4 carbine, and then one outfitted with a heavier barrel. Amazing what a difference it makes.

Never seen a barrel droop like a wet noodle before.

Holy Hell!

Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to kill them.

This is one of the reasons I would not buy a Ruger Mini 14. Also the reason I upgraded my AR-15 uppers to LMT's.

Yea, you're right. I could see you putting that many rounds through a semi-auto mini-14, that quickly!!!

They should have had 10 beta-c mags instead of fiddling with the 30 rounders.

yeah I was thinking the same thing, but that's some money invested... but so is blowing up guns for testing. It would probably be a little less sensational if they only did 4 mag changes instead of 13.

Why did it seem like the person doing the test wasn't proficient with operating the M4? It seems like he was fumbling a lot.

I've had a mini-14 and know many others who could not get them to zero. They're barrels are pieces of shit! For the money, I'd rather have a Saiga over a Mini-14/30!

Plus it doesn't make since purchasing a mini 14 for just about the price of building an AR-15... Would everyone agree!

The operator was probably a little nervous about what might happen to him at any second while he was trying to kill the auto AR... I know I would have been

I've fickled my Bushy to the point of getting the gas tube cherry red and melting the ends of the handguards.

I've got a Mini, and while it isn't as accurate as my AR, it'll definitely put a bullet within an inch of where I'm aiming at a range of 100 yards. I'm not saying that it's a sub-MOA gun though. The last time I shot it, my groups were averaging 2.5" center to center which means that the standard deviation of each shot was about 1 MOA.... good enough in my book for deer and hogs given the right shot.

Thats the problem I have with the mini-14. For the price Ruger is asking for the mini-14, why is it not as accurate or more accurate 2.5" center-center. Which is consistant with what I was getting out of it. Its definitely not because its semi-auto because an AR is semi-auto. The problem is in their barrels, which was the point of this thread. Will any civilian put their mini-14's/AR-15's through a torture test witnessed above? No they wouldn't but again the problem isn't with the semi-auto action of the mini-14. I just feel like they had a great concept but they never took it to the next level. I just can't justify Ruger's price for the accuracy that I can attain in a Saiga .223 for half their price. But its ok because I predict the mini-14 will be discontinued as soon as Ruger's AR-15 platform makes the full transition onto the civilian market. So if you got a mini-14, you may wanna stock up on parts/mags etc. before their prices go up...

I guess I should have added that it wasn't too long after purchasing the Mini that I bought my AR. The barrels are definitely the weak point of the Mini platform.
