I believe that you still would have to contact the state that you are traveling to and get "permission" to carry in their state using the Utah ID. Most states have reciprocal agreements where they will honor each others CCW ID, but my instructor stated that it's always a good idea to get prior approval from the state to avoid any issues if pulled over.

What would be the point of a Utah non-resident license? Why not obtain a TX DL, then apply for a Texas CHL?

Utah would only give you a few states that Texas doesn't (West Virgina, Ohio). Some states only honor a holder's license IF they are a resident of the State that issued the license.

There are some other states that offer out of state liscenses, but I can't remember which ones for the life of me. I think I figured it all out once, and could get reciprocity in every state except Illinois and NY. Go figure.

Give me a dollar.

Are you gonna make be beat it out of you? Who was it? I only ask because he really errs to the side of caution and I might be willing to take my renewal from him if he is close.

I got my Non resident Utah CCW here.

http://www.crossfire-training.com/co...index.php/home

Utah will give you Washington, Minnesota, Ohio, and West Virginia .It did have Nevada but they revoked Utah for some legal reason.

Good people and very up to date on laws.

Just get the Texas CHL.

Many states NOW will NOT honor a non resident CHL (If you are a Texas Resident and have a Florida CHL), some states will not honor the Florida CHL. However if you have a Texas CHL and a Texas DL, most states will honor it. (See the Texas DPS websites to verify the states.)

Like Colorado WILL NOT honor a Utah CHL, IF you have a Texas Drivers License.

6 states do not allow non-resident CHL reciprocity according to handgunlaw.us:

Quote:
Colorado (CO), Michigan (MI), South Carolina (SC), New Hampshire (NH),
Florida (FL), and Maine (ME) only honor permits from residents of the issuing states.
BTW, if you have Utah you get WA, OH and WV but if you have TX you do not. So basically, if you have UT only you lose CO, MI, SC, FL but gain WA, OH and WV. You wouldn't get NH or ME with either UT or TX CHL's.

Oh, and one more thing, you lose CO but most of CO is open carry so you really only lose Denver.
