This was post #48:

he was not, i repeat not using a hammer to get the gun in battery.
his was using the palm of his hand.

the shooter is still in the hopsital, but should be able to have a complete recovery in time.

for the record, those hammers that were there were being used to put up the targets.

It is hearsay.. but they're credible sources.

Your original post leads people to believe that a hammer was used to close the bolt, thus resulting in this accident. Whether you actually stated that in words or not doesn't matter, it lead many people in this thread to the wrong conclusion unfortunately. The fact that you later indicate it was all hearsay is a bit late in the game. Hearsay doesn't mean jack!

I saw you (wildcard) taking pics at the range today, it was like a photo op for you and you were the paparazzi. I knew exactly what was coming, posts on Calguns or somewhere else. I also knew that misinformation is exactly what would spread, and that also happened as evidenced here.

sbchero did witness the accident as he was sitting right next to the shooter who happens to be a very close friend of his. Other than the shooter's other friend who was sitting on the other side of him, no one else really knows the story better. If sbchero has stated it, then believe it with regards to this story. The injured shooter and sbchero are friends of mine and I was there also to see the aftermath.

At this point let's keep a positive outlook for the injured shooter and wish him the best in his recovery.

This is a bummer to hear about. I was going to pick one of these up over the summer. Is this a random case or does this happen allot with these rifles.

I had a buddy who had a .50 burn off in his hand while he was doing remedial action for a misfire. Luckly because of the way things happend (hard to explain unless you know .50s) the powder was no longer under pressure and only partial burned off. It still blew the full leather flight glove clean off of his hand, and his hand was swollen to about twice the size of his other from the concusion of the blast. He had some small burns and cuts but he came out alright....lucky!! Could have been bad. Those .50 call rounds are no joke. They turn into little bombs if they fire isnt directed down a barrel.
