New toy in the family

....well sort of. This is my Dad's new LWRC REPR with a *cough Elcan scope.

and a pic of it's new home in the man cave.

.....must be nice to be retired. Now if he will just get bored with the hobbie like he did with golf and give it all to me. That would be one hell of a Uhaul ride from Florida.

The next house I build will have a simliar work area but I want a recessed area for my safe.

I also would like to get back into reloading in a bad way, I just don't have time now.

When the "Most interesting man in the world" needs advice, he calls me.

That's not stupid, he's just making up for lost time!

So far, I have turned two people who owned zero firearms and had no interest into multiple gun owners. One's first experience was the NRA national convention.

He has two of the US Optics SN-3 3.8-22X44 at $2800 each.

I have tried to talk him out of the Elcan. One of my coworkers (22yr SF vet) did a lot of weapons testing for new "toys" and the Elcan failed miserably. His gun store sells him all their high end shit though. (2 POFs, the REPR, the 2 US Optics, etc)

Funny thing is he verbally accuses me of his hemorrhage of cash and the gun store has thanked me for his addiction. I told them to give me a damn commission.

St. Augustine, Fl
Alarm? check
Working protection GSD? check
Home and armed all the time? check
Itching to shoot some(one)? check

Hell he has practically made a range card for the block he lives on. "120m to the stop sign". His neighbors love him cause when TSHTF they know "Bob" will be in his hide.

I shot the POF .308 with the US Optics just after shooting my Leupold Mark IV. The damn $1400 Leupold is not even near the same class of clarity even with the bigger 50mm vs the US Optics 44mm.

What are you building? I have done four AR15 builds and have most of the parts for the lower portion of my AR10. I just need an A1/2 buffer tube.

Hell, then you need a spy operative's approach. The old cat burglar routine won't work on thit guy, but it could still be done.

I love St. Augustine. I was stationed in Pensacola for Crypto school and then Homestead AFB for 6 months TAD. I had a girlfriend in St. Augustine for a while.

I live on a cul-de-sac with 13 homes. There are 4 police officers, one probation officer and 2 National Guard members. Even if the shit does hit the fan, we've aleady planned to meet at my house as the rally point.

I have not had a chance to meet any of my neighbors really. We have been in our new house for about 5 months now but I have been gone the whole time. I really do want to meet with them and feel them out. No way in hell do I broadcast my "toys and their brass cased food items" to them until I can tell they are Republicans. I do know we have one guy who is a pilot and a long distance shooter, former Marine Sniper. He has a concrete vault room. Most of our neighborhood are families in their upper 30's to early 40's. I think DiAnn and I are the youngest (me 33, her 29).

That is actually something I am looking forward to when I get home for good. Meeting the neighbors and being social. It is like King of the Hill where I live. Garage doors go up at 9 on saturday for yard work like clockwork.

St. Augustine is the shit. 4 ranges within 10 miles of my dad's house. Great weather. The beach. An hour from Daytona and Jax the other direction. Neat little town.

If I weren't in Texas, I'd probably be in Florida.

If I can put up with all the dumbassery here, I could make it there. I have a shooting buddy in Orlando.

I have been trying to convince Pops to move back to Texas. It is a hard sell and the damn weather in Texas is not helping any. He moved down to Broward (sp?) county in 87 and up north to St Augustine around 94 or so. He used to own a dozen condos there, made visiting a blast. Now the family is down to one (fucking ex-stepmother daughter of satin).

You know Magpul Dynamics shoots in St Augustine about 6 times a year. Now I would make a trip there for that in a heart beat.

I can see how it would be hard to pull him from the Florida weather (on the Gulf side). I love the weather, the conservative views (kinda like Texas) and the diving around the Keys.
