Flamethrowers

I know they are legal if there are no state or local regulations. Does anyone know if they are regulated in Texas?

They're not regulated.

they are regulated to some degree by how jurisdictions define a firearm.

So dont mount one on the battle wagon until the zombie plague has started

That's not the issue, I'm just wondering about the legal side of things.

Agencies don't define firearms. State law does (Penal Code Ch 46.02). I have never seen or even heard of one in a LEO case in Texas. It is does not meet the definition of "firearm" or "explosive device".

So basically it all depends on what is being done with one or how it it being used?

Of course. You use it to kill someone, you'll go to jail. Use to set some house on fire, you'll go to jail. Use to threaten someone you'll go to jail.

Just like everything, use common sense.

David is right. It's use (or misuse) could be covered under the arson statutes.

Fact is, ranchers use what can be considered flamethrowers in order to burn brush piles and things like that. To them it is a tool. Some of the best places to find information on making them for yourself, making your own fuel or how to use them without setting yourself on fire can be found on ranching and farming message boards.

You can also download the .pdf for a book called "breath of the dragon" that some fruitcake militant wrote.

From what I have read, the hardest part is making your own fuel that works reliably at different temperatures.

Well I didn't realize my question sounded so dumb until you answered it. Just wanted to get a better idea about them. The hamster in my head was spinning today and creating some crazy ideas.

Yup. Farmers/Ranchers can also use and store Kinepak (explosive) to clear stumps and other explosives needed tasks.

They sell small ones at places like Tractor Supply that run on propane, and from experiance I can say its not fun running one all day long.

I was referring to firing a firearm within city limits, I know that different cities have varying definitions as to allow the legality of firing air rifles, paintball markers, and etc within the city limits. I would also assume that their use falls under some burn ban stipulations.

As Dee said propane variations can be bought commercially for varying odd jobs. I used to use one to help evaporate water off the track.

You'd have to check your city ordinances, but I can't see there being one specifically for flame throwers.

a flame thrower vs. zombies is really very ineffective.

Misinformation based on the smell of burning reanimated flesh (It's quite Stinky), the collateral damage that follows the use of a flame thrower (The roof is on Fire), and the disruption of night vision. Shots to the head from flame throwers that are hot enough to incinerate bone will kill a Zed by incinerating the skull and brain.

I've found that electrical contact cleaner makes a bigger flame than brake cleaner just a thought.
