My New Night Time Targets!

I just came back from checking my trap and trail cams to see this nasty boar... Time to get the spotlight and a 5 hour energy drink...

You don't need night vision for those. Get a spotlight with a red lense.

I've shot MANY hogs over my time. You're only basically going to get ONE shot anyway. They'll all run like hell after the first shot.

sounds like we need 5 or so people out there... each person pic a hog and do a " 1...2...3.. BANG!" type attack

how long does it take for them to come back after a shot ?

Hell sometimes they never leave after you shoot 1 or 10. I have shot 'em and it will be laying on the ground kicking and the others just look at it like it is crazy and keep on eatin the corn....

Everyone I've shot at, they run like hell... And they keep running for hundreds of yards. Generally they don't show back up at my feeders for 2-4 days after being shot at.

If there's a group of them tightly packed, if you use a 12 gauge with 00 buck, you can get 3-4 of them pretty easily.

I have NEVER had them sit and look at each other after I let loose with a rifle at one. Deer on the other hand, I have had run 30 yards and look back at me.

I was thinking about having a half dozen or so. The guy on the left take the furthest to the left and the others work their way down the line.

I have had it happen a few times. The last time there was a pack of about 20 hitting the feeders down at our Llano lease. I had my Encore and only carry the 3 rounds that the shoulder strap holds. I shot 1 it dropped, shot another it ran a few feet and dropped, hit the 3rd and it flopped around a little bit. NONE of the other ones even flinched. They ate ALL the corn and went on to the next feeder that my brother in law and his wife was hunting. He shot one and they took off. As they were climbing out of the stand they looked and the damn things were back so then his old lady picked wich one she wanted and she got one too.

I have only seen does get shot at and run and stop and look back. Any buck that I have shot and missed or was running the does with the buck I shot ran and probably did not stop for a week.

The problem whith the ones in my pic is the fact they are all over 150 lbs right now. Also, the county is archery only for hunting and deer season is still going on so we don't want to spook the deer too bad for a couple more weeks. Plus in 3-4 weeks there should be more babies. We try to hit the 100-125 pounders. Taste much better!

damn by the looks of it, I need to get on your lease... I've been hunting at my dads place and it seems like the deer have all starting going around his property...

They think its because of the bobcats. I saw three a couple weeks ago and shot one of them but wasn't able to get a shot on the other two

You're right, the smaller ones taste better, but you can always turn the big ones into sausage.

all I had in the stand with me was the .270 I hunt with and they were running straight at my stand (after hearing the safety click off I guess) so I shot him in the head and blew a hole in his side the size of my fist. wasn't much left to mount after that haha.
They are not near as big as I thought they were. I expected a small lion looking thing haha.. but bobcats are more like large house cats!

You can only hunt DEER in Grayson County with Archery only (That includes crossbows), but you can hunt hogs with a Rifle. That is the only county in Texas that has that restriction.

Now if you are in Oklahoma, I have no clue what the regs are there.

Yes, however the deer as well as the neighbors don't like it too much when rifles are going off.

It is my uncles land and his rules if you know what I mean. There are 2 feeders, 3 cams and 4 blinds to hunt from so i aint complining!
We use a horton 175# crossbow and a red light. Sometimes they just start eating the one you shoot. Especially if there is a big boar in the group and you shoot a smaller one or a big female.

Use a .22 LR, aim at the ear and pull the trigger. Its not that loud (And its still legal) I've take 300 pound plus boars with a Ruger 10/22. All you have to do is put the bullet into its ear and you'll kill it. (I've got a really tricked out 10/22 that I can hit the staples on a target at 50 yards.)

Yep, I have taken hogs with my .17 at about 150 yards, ear and eye shots....
You can use CCI cb shorts in a 10/22 and it sounds like a pellet gun.

no, the .17 hmr round is longer than a .22 LR requiring a longer chamber. Also, there is a difference of ~.05" in projectile diameter making the use of a .22 barrel not a good idea.
