Proud of my 22-250

I bought a Savage laminate/stainless varmint stock, heavy barrel 22-250 last year about this time. I put a cheap Bushnell scope on it and hated it. A few months ago, I put a new Leupold 4-12x40 on it and I started shooting it quite a bit more. I have been dying to shoot a super tight group with it and I finally got one today.

Today I was switching brands/bullet size around and shooting 3-shot groups. I went through several targets, but only took pictures of my last one. The first two were with new brands and bullet sizes to me and I was not happy with the results. On the last group, I switched back to the the bullet I had been shooting through it most of the last few months. This was at 100 yards, on my shoulder, front rest only.

I know some of you guys probably do this all day long, but this was a first for me.

I had the boring blued Savage 12 FV in .22-250. I didn't keep it real long but it was a heck of a shooter. I just used the 45 gr winchester value packs.

which model leupold?

the VX-II with the adjustable objective... they are so freaking expensive.

BTW.. the cartridge I used in that last group was the Winchester Ballistic Silvertip 50 gr.

My Pops has a few US Optics and loves them. I don't think you will find anyone that will take you up on that trade. lol

I get to bust a few with his POF/US Optics .308 in a week an a half. Come out to Alpine he may let you sit behind it.

Nice group on that third pic. What is the rate of twist and barrel length? Have you considered reloading yet.

sweet.

Get a big target scope. A cheap Tasco for $150, a Weaver T-36 for $400, or a Sightron or Leupold for about $800. Of course, a March is over 2k.

5 shots is a better measure than 3. But the 3 touching is excellent if it is repeatable.

Looks good. How do you like the round? I've been eyeing 22-250 and 25-06 for my next rifle purchase.

I have a 35-year-old Sako 22-.250 (pre-Garcia) that can drive tacks at 200 yds. regardless of who's firing it. It's an amazing caliber, and the flattest shooting rifle I've ever seen.

If the weather isn't shit, I'd be up for some range time at Alpine with my .308 Remington PSS.

This group was done on a business card at 100 yards, cold bore with cheap Remington UMC 150gn ammo:
