Personalized High cap. para .45??

Alright, so..

Its a deal with deployments, for a unit to get a "deployment gun"
Half of us still carry colt 1911's so all these guys are really into the 1911, and see why its such a great gun.

Looks like this "deployment gun" is going to be a PARA 1911, high capacity.
Supposedly its some kind of military/LE hand gun, that civilians cant buy? The mags hold 14 rounds, which i think is the only thing that makes it military/law enforcement only.
The gun has a light rail, and milled trigger and hammer, as long as some neat sights.

I didnt copy down the part number, but it comes with a bunch of extra shit.
The gun and all the goodies equals out to $1650, but we get a package price of $775.

Off hand, the extra stuff is a BLACKHAWK serpa holster
5 extra mags, and some other stuff.

It will have "de oppresso liber" etched on the side, as well as our unit crest.

Here is my problem, i would love to jump on a smoking deal like this, but i also thing the gun is just ugly. It comes in a tan color.
Also, to hold 14 rounds, thats a fat ass grip. I have decent sized hands, but damn, I may not like it. Its hard to buy a gun, without holding it.
AND, since its somewhat personalized, i may never be able to sell it.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a nice gun, I would buy it if I were you. With all the gun guys out there I'm sure someone would buy it off you later on, and I am pretty sure you could get your money back out of it. Check out the link, looks close to what you are describing.

I like the idea of the "DE OPPRESSO LIBER" on the slide, It actually makes me kinda want one. I don't think any of the etchings would hurt the resale value, I would be damn proud to own a gun that was carried by a soldier to defend my freedom.

I am not read up on 1911's, but from what little I know that price sounds reasonable for the gun alone with 1 mag, maybe two, the rest would be icing on the cake. Maybe not 1600 dollars worth, but definitely $775.

You really think?
I just would prefer a more mild 1911, with some simple unit stuff on it.
Something like a springfield, simple, clean, with our moto and patch.
This being tan, with a rail... it just looks a little cheesy to me.

Does anyone have an experience with PARA handguns? Does it perform well also, or simply look good?

One of my good friends has a baby eagle .40 S&W and loves it. He said it shoots well and has never jammed on him in the three years he's had it. He goes to the range 2-3 times a month and puts about a hundred rounds through it each time.

Werd. I was thinking the same thing. Academy has some pretty good deals on Para's "Gun Rights". They are definitely good guns for the money.

For instance, Academy has this Para "Gun Rights" for $799 every day. It retails on Para's website for $1,149. So Academy has got some pretty good deals.

Random o/t question...

Are the clip release buttons on most guns reversible for left handed people?

Not usually, some pistols are better than others about being ambidextrious. I just learned to release the mag with my middle finger instead of my thumb.

HK is very good about ambi mag release though. Glock too.

I like it except for the rail. Looks out of place on a 1911.

I think if i was in your shoes it would just be something cool to remember everyone by down the road. Build a shadow box for it or something. I've never held a double stack 1911 but i have small hands and the single stacks are perfect. You can always gain a little by going with the slim grips too. The only other thing id change is the ambi safety.

What you might call solitude is something i look forward to.

IMO you can't judge a "good deal" based on MSRP. It is always high.

I have for sure thought about the shadow box idea. That would be very very cool. I would still shoot it often though, it most definently wouldnt just sit there, i hate when people do that.

Thanks for the words guys, im probably going to get it now. Its a once in lifetime deal, and would be nice to have.

I like the shadowbox idea, but I refuse to do it because I have a $1,600 Angel Sword Katana I'd love to display, and my first issued duty weapon (S&W Model 65 .357 Magnum revolver), but I have kids. It's not my kids I worry about, but when they get older and have friends over, I have no control over who tells whom about what I have in my house. I don't want some kid breaking into my home to get my gun or sword.

Or, I wouldn't want some burglar getting my stuff from a radom break in.

If you are worried about capacity:D

Seriously though, that looks like a very nice 1911 and the price with all the extras is a good deal. I have been contemplating a double stack 1911 for a while but I am worried about the grip width as well.

What gun is that? It has an external extractor on it. It's not a 9mm is it?

We have to order at least 30, so im sure there is no limit.
I now have the paperwork infront of me.

I misspoke, and it DOSNT come with the BLACKHAWK serpa holster

Here is the run down.

Standard model price $1180.
Night Sights
Ambidextrous safety
Flat top slide
Custom engraving
3 extra mags (totaling 5)
Pacakge retail price $1626.00

We pay $740.00 plus some $30 odd to the FFL, maybe pay tax, maybe not.

The gun is indeed the SF-45-A
which includes
barrel: 5- inch ramped, match, with guide rod
40 ounces
lenght: 8.5
height 5.75 inches
3-dot tritium night sights
reciever: stainless steel with intergral light rail
Spurred comp Hammer
Trigger: medium lenght, match grade
stocks: super-tough slim polymer

You'd just be stuck with some engravings from my unit on there, but nothing crazy.
It would be similar to the one pictured above

This is a special run para is doing for different units Basically they are treating each unit as a distributor as this is distributor terms and they are doing the engraving(laser etch) free I have seen a number of these pistols and they are nice For the price I'd do one. the unit gets to decide how the etch is done and what to put on it I have seen one group come through with the unit plaque and designator the other group had unit badging and a moto

I do know that each soldier can order as many as he/she wants Also it takes para a while to fill these I believe one unit c/o told me he worked he deal just a hair under a year from order to delivery

What do you mean "we"?
This is a thing my unit is doing, and a couple of the guys here wanted to jump on.

The engraving maybe optional, i doubt it though.

The "we" is referring to: If I were interested in attaining one, would it have to be engraved? There was talk about other guys not in your unit that were wanting one, so I figured you could make it a group buy if allowed.
