Mosin nagant

I'm wanting to purchase a MN. I prefer the m44 or m38 but will settle for a full length rifle. I see a few websites listing them for sale but would like to know if anyone has purchased one online, from who, and how the quality is. Thanks

Hit up military gun supply in Ft Worth...

I had a 91/30 and ended up trading it with a buddy of mine for his M44, both great rifles.
Should be able to pick up a 91/30 for around $100(little more depending on the shop) and M44s are a little more...
Ammo is cheap just clean them well after shooting...

Where do you find hollow/soft point ammo for it to hunt with?

Surplus FMJ's. Works on all the hogs and deer ive shot. Hunting is more shot placement then ammo. Ive been hunting since I was 16 (30 now) and always used fmj whether it was in my 30-06, ak, ar, or mosin. Every animal ive killed dropped when hit behind the shoulder. Longest chase so far is 30 yards and that was with a 150gr 30-06. A 7.62x54r is very similar in ballistic to a 30-06.

Hunting with FMJ is illegal in the state of Texas.

For Hogs you can use a suppressed SBR IR equipped M-16 with 5.56 M855.

You have a link for the FMJ on deer?

Says so in the book you get with your hunting license. I thought fmj hunting illegality was a pretty well known deal?

Thats news to me. I look at the new laws and regulations every year when august comes around. I dont see where it says FMJ's are illegal. If this is true then no big deal on changing up ammo.

But FYI, fmj's do the trick.

Use Silver Bear/Brown Bear. They make a soft point round. You can usually get it at Gander Mountain.

I just made a few calls to a couple of my hunting buddys, they agree that FMJ's are legal.

Hmm, well I may have been proven wrong then. Could have sworn hunting with FMJs is illegal in Texas.

You can buy 7.62X54R Norma soft point. Prepare to pay $2 per round, but it's out there for hunting purposes.

FMJ Is legal to use in Texas.

You can use any CENTER FIRE rifle on Deer, no limits on ammo cap, no bullet restrictions other than it must be Center Fire for Deer.

I routinely carry Soft Point .308's with me, and in my pocket I do have a couple FMJ's. (Use the soft points for deer, and I use the FMJ's for turkey).
