Taking Bets: Form 4 vs. CHL Paperwork

This will be interesting-

Last Monday I mailed in my CHL application, check and all the the DPS headquarters in Austin. This Friday, I will be mailing in a form 4 to facilitate the transfer of a suppressor from a local dealer to yours truly.

Here's where it gets interesting- what comes back first? I know the CHL apps are taking a bit longer than usual, but the ATF is also taking quite a while to process paperwork at this time.

What will come back first, and when? Gosh I hate playing the waiting game.

CHLs are varying greatly. One guy on the hunting forum said it took him 6 months, another said 3. I guess it all depends on whos desk your junk lands on.

No shit. With my interest in a career in the medical field, I can't wait until the government begins to administer health care!

Damn, so like the government to cash the check and get their money, then throw the shit in the "To Do" pile. LOL.

I bought my suppressor last Dec. and finally got my paperwork back in May. It took 5 months for me.

Never wrap it up, never pull out. Just grind up the morning after pill in her scrambled eggs at sunrise, she'll appreciate that you made her breakfast.

I dont know why they do it that way. But checks are separated and cashed then forwarded to WV.

Yet for Form 1s, money and all goes straight to WV.

Update:
Form 4s sent away today
CHL paperwork sent October 5th
Form 4s sent October 19th

And now I play the waiting game

By the way, how do you check the status of your forms? Like, how to tell when the status goes pending.

once the check is cashed (check your bank) give them a couple weeks or three then call the office at 304-616-4500 have the s/n of the item purchased handy they will ask for it

they will only give you info once the form goes pending they will ask the s/n then ask your name if its pending your name will be in the database and they will know who its assigned to if not it will show at the current owner only(previouse owner or dealer) I usually wait 3 weeks initially then call every other week for info till its approved

Calling is absolutely pointless imo.

It doesnt speed anything up and and only cause impatience on your part.

They get approved when they get approved.

I don't agree

I know one guy that they lost his paper work once the check was cashed
talked to another that they cashed his check then said he never sent paper work in

Personally I checked on my first form and had filled out the cirt of compliance and had my wife sign as that made sense to me I called the day that the examiner was sending the paper work back Saved me a week as she told me what needed to be done and I sent it in without having to wait for what she was sending

I do agree that it does not speed anything up once its pending but it can help with issues or problems

Thats pretty lucky man. Im using a trust so fortunately I don't have to do the whole certification of compliance.

I have friends that did the trust. I went with the signature as it took about ten minutes to get done and half that time was talking to the officers that I know and hadn't seen in a few years.
