7mm Mag

Anyone shooting a 150 grain 7mm mag? What are yout ballistics like on it. Where should i sight it in to? I am going elk hunting and i would like to practice to 500 yds but i cant seam to find a ballistics table for that bullet. Its a savage 110 7mm mag if it matters. 26" barrel i think? I have the ballistic drop on my scope 10-40 X50 but dont know where to hold at.

26in is pretty typical of Remington 7mm magnum. Something about having a barrel long enough to burn slow powder, like R22.

Usually, one of the gun mags will have a trajectory table in their yearly edition like Guns and Ammo or Shooting Times. Else there are free calculators online. You type in the info and it spits a chart out for you. You should be about 3000fps with the 150gr.

Winchester 150gr stuff at Wal-Mart shot great in mine. And it was 20$/20 shells.

160gr delivers more energy than the 175gr. But the 150gr should be fine.

500 yards is a long shot. Of course, the elk gives a big target.

Drop - all numbers approx. for 150gr 3000fps .284caliber bullet.
100 yards -1.5in
200 yards 0in
300 yards 7in
400 yards 21in
500 yards 43in
