Out of those, I'd recommend the S&W simply for the well documented quality of their revolvers.

Ruger's revolvers are solid guns, too. As close to indestructible as they get.

You do use .38 special at the range right?

I've always liked the 608, but the weight of the gun swayed my opinion.

I'm starting to lean towards the Taurus for the price ($420) vs S&W at $585. This pistol will be used at the deer lease for snakes/varmits so I probalby don't need to spend the $ for the S&W, but I know S&W is quality.

Any of the three should be fine if it was me I'd get either the ruger or the smith over the taurus just because they have had some control issues in the past.

I had the 608 before and loved it, it was a range and night stand gun. With a good holster you should have no problem carrying it around.

I just picked up a Ruger GP100 in 357mag I can't wait to put some rounds through it this weekend. I thought about going with a Taurus just because of the cheaper price tag. I'm glad I spent the extra little bit of money for the Ruger not only did it fit my hand better the action just seemed so much smoother.

I've had a Taurus (sold because someone wanted it and I sold it for what I had in it to a friend), I still have my original police issue S&W Model 65, and I bought a Ruger GP101 that I absolutely love.

I would own a Colt Python in a heartbeat if they weren't $1,000.

I carried a 686 for years. I still have it, just don't carry it anymore. I'd gladly take a used 686 over a brand new anything else listed. And keep in mind, the Smith will always hold its resale value.

Thanks everyone. I am still on the fence, the $585 price tag for the 686 is very attractive since most places want $650-700 for them. But times are tough and the Taurus is very affordable for what I need it for. I still have a couple of weeks before ordering it, so I may just go to the range and try all 3 out first.

What length barrel? How much did that run you and where did you get it?

I am looking at getting a GP100 in stainless with a 6" barrel. Always looking for good deals.

It is a 6" stainless I paid $550 for it I could have shopped around and found it cheaper but I didn't want to deal with the hassle. I picked it up from B&S off I-30 in Garland. They only had the one 6" ss so I picked it up they did have a blued version though. Although they are pretty good about finding/ordering stuff might go check'em out.

A GP100, or an SP101? i think you have the two runnin together?
Without a quick google search, i dont think there is a gp101.
I have a GP100 4'' barrel in stainless, and love it.

I would also own a Python in a minute, but they sure bring a pretty penny. My
155lb ass looks funny holdin the python.

The only thing bad about a Python is the trigger mech. can get off time if you shoot alot of full house magnum loads in them.

Go with the S&W. I like the Ruger revolvers, but prefer the S&W. The Taurus is just a knock off on the Ruger.

my 4 in. GP100 in stainless is by far my favorite gun. I put a hogue grip on it and it is wheelgun perfection, IMO.

If it's an open carry gun, why not a big SAA in a .44 or .45?

Give me a dollar.

Hard to beat an S&W when it comes to a wheel gun. I'd go 686!

It happens to be a well thought out and reasoned dissertation on drug use and a lyrical cost/benefit analysis of various kinds of drugs, drawing the conclusion that beer is the best of them all.

327 TRR8 or the M&P one.
8 shot with picatinny rail for laser/light and scope mount for Aimpoint.

Also like model 19 for target shooting.

Colt Python is good looking.
