just applied for the CHL!

just put in the Texas side of the CHL for the wife and I. we plan on taking the class in October and get this done! the embarassing part is she has a S&W .45 and I don't even have a gun...its time to start looking now. My uncle gave me a Tarus 357 revolver but I dont' think I would want to carry that, and know I won't use it for the test. any advice or tips to make the process go quickly?

Its going to be awhile, so prepare for a long wait. It took me 160 something days to get my license from Class to CHL in hand.

Borrow a semi auto if you end up not getting something besides that revolver before the class. I'm pretty sure if you take the class with a revolver you can only carry a revolver where as if you take the class with a semi auto you can carry both styles.

A lot of them will rent you a semi-auto pistol for the class. Shop around until you find an instructor you like. You need to pay attention to all the instructions, scenarios, etc, and if you don't like your instructor, you might miss something. Shop around, and good luck, man!

Give me a dollar.

Yes, this is correct. If you test with a revolver, you can only carry a revolver. But if you test with a semi, you can carry both.

I talked to the guy thats going to do the class already, he said my wife and I could both share one, I think this is the route we will go for now. I will get a semi aut but I have a lot to learn before I can make an educated decision on what I want....not to mention need to save up some cash.

thanks for the tips! We've been needing to do this for a while and are excited to finally get the ball rolling

Congratulations on you and your wife taking advantage of this important opportunity.

Like BradM posted take the qualification part of the class with a semi-auto, so you can carry either a revolver or a semi-auto.

not to change the subject, but i have a berretta 96d. It is double only. Would this qualify as a semi-auto for the test?

I did the app online for both of us last night. I figured I would get an email or something but didn't. I know it said they mail something to me. Is there nothing else I get to know they are working on it? Hopefully the mail will bring something next week!
