What does the owner's manual say? It should list whether or not the Judge is rated for +P.

Give me a dollar.

I still respect a "shotgun" pistol for home defense!

I would be willing to guess it could take a +p round with ease.

I talked my friend out of one as a "defense weapon". 12ga or a more tradditional pistol caliber with a modern JHP would be a much better choice.

What's got more tradition than .45 Colt?

not much... but you know what I mean: (.380, 9mm, .357, .40sw, .44, .45acp) There are just a lot more off the shelf defense loads that are solid performers with expansion and penetration. The standard colt round doesn't really provide much advantage over the .45acp.

Can't exactly call the 9mm and .45acp "modern"

Modern .45 Colt (for modern weapons) can be loaded to power levels comparable to .44 Magnum, IIRC.

And there are plenty of modern JHP bullets available for 9mm, .45 ACP, and maybe even .45 Colt.

How much did you grab your Judge for. I have been thinking of one of those. Is that not on Obama's list of guns to eventually ban?
