Anyone on here carry a revolver if so what kind and size I'm thinking on getting one of the small J frame smiths or a Ruger SP101.

My dad carries a Rossi 38 5-shot alot during the summer because it is easier to conceal than his 9mm. He has been really pleased with it.

I shoot IDPA almost weekly. The guys that shoot revolvers seem to run into issues more often than the semi-auto guys. Just saying...

Issues like what? Longer reload times?

Six shots, reload, six shots, reload. That's a lot more chances to fumble something under pressure. And it does happen to even the most seasoned guys. It's harder to fumble a reload on a semi-auto. Clearing a jam with a semi-auto goes so much quicker too.

I know some guys that can shoot and reload a revolver faster and more accurate than some of the newbie semi-auto guys but that's after years of competing.

We're talking concealed carry, not IDPA. The targets don't shoot back in IDPA.

Absolutely. But concealed carry isn't just about how small and how light a gun is. It also includes the part about drawing, getting your sight picture fast, staying on target between shots, getting multiple rounds on target, etc. while you're ducking for cover or moving. I'm not saying IDPA is the ultimate proving ground for concealed carry handguns but it's a lot better than just fondling a gun at a gun store and going lane shooting at the range.

It happens. Not very often but it happens.

When revolvers go down, they go down hard. Revolvers are no more or less prone to actual breakage than automatics.

As for "jams", there really aren't a lot of ways for a revolver to jam. If you have an overpressure round, you might have to pound the ejector rod. If you don't eject properly (muzzle up), you might get brass going under the ejector star, and this can be a minor pain to right (really bad at a critical time).

Like any handgun if you don't clean it often you can get a build up of lead/powder residue that will cause a "jam".

I'm going to the Ft. Worth show tomorrow (today) to try to pick up a hammerless SP101 with 2 1/4" barrel in .357 Magnum.

Eh, I just bought a beautiful 1911 .... not really wanting a sig right now. I do want a .357 BUG though. I dunno what im gonna buy next. I might just start looking for a .38 or a .357, or maybe a .40 ... seems to be some cheap .40 ammo out there.

FWIW, I can't say enough about the SP101. I have it in .357 Mag with the 3 1/16" barrel. I added the hogue grips. Recoil on with the .357 rounds is definately controllable. My wife is a little recoil shy and likes it with .38.

(TIP - Have your wife shoot with ear plugs and ear muffs if she is recoil shy. I can use the same ammunition but her reaction to the recoil is dependent on how loud it sounds to her.)

Also the trigger is not perfect out of the box. You can smooth it up by dry firing the heck out of it or by doing a trigger job on it. (And maybe lighten the trigger pull while you are at it.)

The sp101 is what i was leaning towards because my hands are fairly large and the grip size on it fits me well. But I've seen some holsters and stuff out there to cc a medium size smith revolver and was wondering if anyone has done that cause I have a medium 4" that is a great shooter i would love to carry.

I bought my dad a Taurus M85 snubby with ported barrel a few years ago when he could no longer load the Kimber I bought him due to arthritis. Great little gun, it's stainless steel with the bobbed hammer and 2" ported barrel with some rubber grips. Wish it could handle .357 Magnums but I'm sure I'd probably never use that round so it's just as well. .38 Special +P are what I keep in it now.

I really want to check out that Ruger when it comes out.

Yes, someone posted pics of it in another thread a couple of weeks ago but I'm to lazy to look them up and unfortunately gun websites are now blocked at my work

$440 + tax. I didn't see one at the show (had plenty of 3" bbls in .357 Mag, 2 1/4" hammerless in .38 Special, and even a 2 1/4" w/hammer in .357 Mag, but I don't want a hammer that can snag when it's drawn), but I did pick up this bad boy, a Smith & Wesson Model 60 (.357 Magnum, 2 1/8" barrel, and bobbed hammer).
