AW Ban: What happens to these weapons?

Let's say the assault weapons ban is re-enacted. What happens to all of the ARs, AKs, etc etc that are owned right now? Does the ban only apply to new sales?

It would apply to new sales, unless it mandates registration of existing weapons, in which case those in question would be grandfathered in and would then require tax-stamps for transfer, making them infinitely less fun than others requiring the same tax-stamps.

Give me a dollar.

Its still mind boggling that a SEMI-auto rifle is an "assualt rifle"
...in the eyes of the politicians...

And even more so to think that criminals already committing crimes wont use them because they are illegal now, lol

It'll never make any sense IF it's passed, so let's keep it from passing!

I'm just wondering if I should but a new DPMS weapon or not.

The last ban they were grandfathered and could be sold whenever someone wanted to, at of course a higher price.

So would there be any reason now, considering a possible permanent AW ban, to NOT buy a new DPMS Panther?

Other than the fact that ar15s are played the fuck out now. I think if a ban were to be enacted that there would be such a surplus one could buy one for not much more than they are now.

Buy something unique, like an MSAR MCS or a sig 556.

Well they could ban them outright so you can no longer buy them, ban them but keep them but could never sell, ban them outright and confiscate, or not do anything.

It all depends on how you want to spend your money.

The last "ban" wasnt to terrible minus the stupidity behind it all.

That ban had stupidity all around it. An example is those stupid magazines that had to be manufactured with "one less" round capacity. We commonly referred to them as the Clinton Clips.

The 90's Federal Assault Weapons Act was designed to desensitize Americans to the notion of having even more of their firearm rights taken away. Dianne Feinstein told 60 Minutes that "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in, I would have done it."

The ban took advantage of the fact that many of the firearms that were banned looked just like the fully automatic military versions and shoot the same kind of ammo. It painted these guns and their owners as dangerous and criminal-like.

There are campaigns still very alive that threaten gun owners rights. http://www.bradycampaign.org/issues/...ns/awoverview/

Great video here....

It has been proven that the first ban did NOTHING to reduce crime so why would YOUR government waste YOUR time and money trying to reinstate FAILED legislation?

ATF’s analysis of guns traced to crime showed that assault weapons “are preferred by criminals over law abiding citizens eight to one....Access to them shifts the balance of power to the lawless.”8
I don't know what that means, are 8x as many assault weapons that are used in crimes owned by criminals as law-abiding citizens? So 1/9th of the crimes committed with assault weapons are committed by non-criminals?

Any statistic that relies on a focus group's personal "preferences" is laughable.
