good pistol ammo??..?

I used to hear of ammo called black rhino's and talon's... is this stuff outdated?? can anyone reccomend a good .40 s&w load for home protection? sorry for the newb to guns & ammo thread but i would just like something better than the cheap walmart stuff if the worst should happen and i have to protect my family

i dont think rhino was real or ever made. talons have been pulled from shelves.

Here are a few examples. Basically any name brand defense ammo will suffice. I like to stay in the 180 gn weight range since it has enough weight and speed. Go lighter and you aren't carrying as much mass, go heavier and you sacrifice some FPS. I might get some 200 gn and give them a try though.

Ranger is basically the same as black talons as far as I know. I'd recommend hornady, I've run XTP's in most of my guns and have yet to have a failure.

Federal HST, its on backorder most places, but it is a nice round. Its supposed to be for LEO only but its easy to get, and its priced right.

Any of the brand name ammo is good. Winchester Ranger SXT are in the top list and cost half of what the others do.
