Anyone here a Kimber fan?

I've been doing some looking, and my next purchase will be a 1911 style pistol.

I've narrowed it down to this Kimber pistol:

Any guys here have the new generation Kimbers? If so, how do you like them?

I have a UC2 and love the thing. I mothballed my Sig P229 after getting it. You get the look and feel of a custom made weapon but at a fraction of the price. The only thing I hate is cleaning it.

Kimber makes a nice 1911 for sure. They can expensive real quick but cheaper than a Colt. I have been thinking about getting a 1911 for sometime and when I get ready I am going to go with a Springfield Mil-Spec.

I have the stainless uc2. Damn nice gun. Had a few issues with the slide lock release. Needed a little trimming/conture. Ammo would catch on it a tad and lock the slide back.

Its my carry.

I always liked that Colt Commander 4" frame...Don't see hardly any police officers carrying single action pistols anymore.

Departments are afraid of Officers carrying "locked and cocked"...

This gun will be for shooting pleasure only. I'll still carry my S&W 4006.

I had one just like that but blued. It was a damn nice pistol, just dont use anything with a steel follower. On my series 1 pistol it left some dings in the frame I didnt notice anything on the series II though. Eather kim Pro mags or wilson or nothing.

I do know that the bluing on the thumb safety sucked, I only had it for a few months and i wore the blueing off.

Check http://gunrunnertexas.com/ for decent prices. I think he wants 819 for the stainless pro carry II

I've owned a few and now have a Utlra Tactical II. I'm a big 1911 fan and after owning Colt, Springfield and Para, Kimber is my favorite. I even named one of my dogs Kimber.

For the money you can't beat a Kimber IMO. I bought my dad a Custom Classic II a few years ago for a great price at Bachman Gun. My dad has trouble working the slide because of his arthritis so I have the gun now and I bought him a nice .38 revolver that he keeps on him all the time now.

I really need to take some newer pictures.

I have the Custom TLE II and the Ultra CDP II and I love both of them. I carry the small one and shot IDPA with the big one. Is there anything specific that you are questioning?

Nothing specific. Just looking at Springfield Armory, Colt, Sig Sauer (not a 1911), and Kimber.

I'm pretty sold on the Kimber, just wanting some honest feedback.

I gave 759 for mine before taxes here in iowa last year for my stainless uc2. I opted for no night sights since i wanted a diff brand.

Mine did take some break in rounds to start feeding the hp's i like. I put about 500-700 of cheap blazer brass. Now it will eat everything.

You may want to check with bachman at a gun show. I bought a Pro Carry II for less than what "kimberman" could sell it to me for. Do you care if it is new or used? Let me know and ill see if i can find any deals.

Here are the kimbers i have had, I personaly thought the Pre Series II gun was a better shooter but i liked the Series II more in terms of reliability

Pro carry Series II .45 bought from bachman at the fort worth gun show (736.04 out the door)

Pro carry pre series II .45 (bought used for 620 off texasCHLforum)

I dumped a bunch of money into a Commander, and it's nice, but it's not Kimber nice. I should've saved a little more and gotten the Pro-Carry II. Excellent choice, Matt.

I've got a 1973 Colt Lightweight, and I'm lucky I found it. If you ever want to shoot it, let me know. It's stupid fast back to battery. I've put a Storm Lake barrel in it, a Dwyer's Group Gripper, and I got a 20lb spring, a beavertail safety, a small magwell flare, and a match trigger from Wilson Combat. I freely admit to swinging from their junk, lol.

Give me a dollar.

Sounds pretty nice man, I would love to take a look at it sometime. Maybe after i free up some funds for the springer ill get out to a range and shoot some more

Someone with a progressive loader want to teach me how to use one? I think i am gonna go to reloading instead of buying new.

Yeah, between the factory offerings at Springfield and Kimber, there's almost no point in building a 1911 like mine anymore. You can get one with basic upgrades right out the door way cheaper than you can build one. Short of a Wilson Combat gun, or a straight out race gun, you're better off with one off the shelf. It's cheaper, it'll shoot better, and there's a warranty.

Give me a dollar.

I dunno man, I have a weakness for steel framed Comanders. Only reason i am goin with a 5 inch this time is i want something i can put a dawson mini rail on then mount a surefire under it when its on the nightstand. I have decided to get rid of my 870 and swap to a pistol and rifle HD set up. The 870 Is just too long for my short little arms to move effectively, Maybe i need to look at the 18" models with a youth stock instead of the 20" riot model.

As it happens, there's a 6-position M4-style stock for 870's on Wilson Combat's site. It ought to help with your length of pull issue:
http://www.wilsoncombat.com/sa_870_cs_pg.asp

Also, a LW Commander = aluminum frame.

Give me a dollar.

LMAO ... i totaly missed out on the lightweight part up top.

The 870 I have is a 1973 Wingmaster riot model with some interesting ID tags on the stocks. Its worth about 400-450 in the condition its in so I dont want to bastardize it any. I just pulled a set of speedfeed stocks off of it so i can sell the speedfeeds and the 870. I would rather just get a 870 express to put some silly m4 stock

Dang, you might net a profit AFTER buying the 870 and the stock. I bought one 2 months ago down here for $309+tax. What are you guys letting them go for?

I've been looking at the forums and haven't found any good Kimbers at a price close to or more than the new price from Kimberman.

I don't care if it's used, but I'd like a Gen III, low mileage, and something that doesn't look like the owner has dropped it a half dozen times.

Got it ... ill see what i can find today while i have time. Are you opposed to having it shipped or do you want a local gun? Night sights or not? You want a completely stock one or are you open to something with mods? I assume that you are looking for a series(gen) II not a gen III pistol? I am unfamiliar with the gen III term.

It doesn't have to have night sights, I don't mind it being shipped if it's a decent deal, would prefer a stock low mile/one owner, lady from Pasedena type gun.

I'm new to Kimbers, I guess the latest version, if that's a II.

Sounds good man, Ill spend some time looking today while i am pricing used Springer Loadeds for myself. Ill PM ya when i have a little list, I may PM ya 1-2 times a day till ya find what you are looking for. Chances are someone is hurting and need to dump a Pro Carry II in a bad way.

I only want the stainless though.. Make sure it's a stainless upper and lower, not the AL lower with stainless upper.

Thanks

By the way, if you are talking to the kimber guy about the pistol you originaly posted it is gonna be a AL frame and not a stainless steel one. If you are looking for a steel frame you need this pistol, and they are hard as hell to find both new and used. Kimberman dosent even have it listed on there site.

I must have posted the wrong link, but I definately want the stainless upper/lower.

I'd like to get it for the best price possible, but as you know, no tax means they will ship it to FFL which will charge $15-25.

They have free shipping and i have a FFL that will do $10 transfers for LEO/CHL's out in Haslet.

$10 FFL charge > $68.39 in taxes

Bying from Kimberman at the $829 price will cost you $897.39 after taxes

Buying from the link i posted with the $858 price will cost you a total of $868

That FFL's name is Bill Wilsie if you need it, if you are ever in the north end of fort worth near North Beach and 820 I have a spare business card with all his contact info I could give ya for when ya are ready to order.

What is the advantage, if any, of a full metal gun as opposed to something like a Glock? Keeping the muzzle down?

Not being a smartass, just curious, being that they have been making both for a good long while.

End of barrel weight and/or porting helps keep the muzzle on target. The reason I want a stainless steel frame is because I plan on keeping it a LONG time. SS is harder than aluminum. I've had my SS S&W 4008 for about 13 years now, and I love using cheap carb cleaner to clean it out. Spray, scrub, spray to rinse, and wipe down. Then spray a light coat of Rem oil on it, wipe off the excess, and you're done.

You can't use carb cleaner on a blued gun, it'll eat the finish.

Also, I just like the looks of a SS gun. I'm not much for bluing, I guess one could tell from the fact I don't own a blued pistol.

Oops, that's not entirely true. The only blued gun I own is the Sig Sauer Mosquito .22 LR.

If you can, just PM me Bill's info, that way I can call to get a copy of his FFL.

Thanks.

I always thought that a blued gun might be beneficial in police work. More of a all business look, and i have heard officers say something about light reflecting off a gun after its drawn and giving there position away. I dont know anything about the validity of these reasons but then again i dont have the experience to disavow them either
