Smith & Wesson M&P pistols.

I may have found my CCW. The S&W M&P 9mm compact model.

Anybody got any experience with these weapons? Good or bad?

I went looking around yesterday, and happened across these guns in Gander Mountain. Not looking to buy anything from them, but they do have a pretty big selection to choose from. It's where I window shop.

Anyways, I know that I've said before that I'd like to stay in the .45 ACP for CCW because it's what I already shoot, but I find it hard to find one I can comfortably conceal. It usually comes down to weight.

But this gun, the M&P 9mm seems like it fit all my requirements. And it just felt right in my hand. Ever get that, where you hold one for the first time and it seems like it was made for YOU. Lol.

Anyways, any knowledge anyone here can share with me is muchly appreciated.

TIA

I've got a S&W sigma series 9ve, 9mm. Not sure if that is the same type or not but my experience has been very good with this gun. I've shot about 400 rds through it and no problems.

I've shot one, decent gun, but not a good trigger, like Driftposer said. My roommate had one for a time.

The M&P 9mm concealed model is smaller, slimmer, and has a crisper trigger, as far as my dryfiring yesterday revealed to me.

The website pistol-training.com They shot 62,000 rounds through it a M&P9 until at developed a cracked slide. Here is the link to the page... http://pistol-training.com/archives/998

They spoke well of it and it would have still fired but the manufacturer's liability lawyers asked for them to end the test.

I've got an M&P 9 full size though. Its a very nice shootting very comfortable gun. Fit in finish to me is much nicer than the Glocks as the M&P has a black stainless frame so especially for carry purposes it should hold up much better.

Comparing the triggers on the sigma and M&P is apples to oranges. The M&P is approx a 6 pound trigger, not supper smooth like a kimber but decent for a DAO pistol. The adjustable backstraps really are a nice feature as you can make the pistol fit your hand.

Also something really attractive about the M&P is the Crimson Trace laser grip setup for them that replace the backstrap. Don't have one yet but would like to one day.

I probably only have a couple thousand rounds through is so far but it has ran without a hitch. Take down is quick so cleaning is a breeze. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you buy it.

That was one of the things I was curious about, it looked like it'd be easy to have apart quickly. That's one of the reasons I love my XD, ease of disassembly. Thank ya...I'm leaning more towards this gun the more I find out about it.

Lock the slide back, trun the take down lever, then flip down a small piece in the chamber thats coated yellow and slide forward. Might not be quite as quick as the glock, but its not quite as akward either.

I remember seeing the piece in the chamber while I was checking one out yesterday.

You just get it with your fingernail? Or is it big enough for the end of your finger?

M&P9c is on my list.
Buds had them on sale for $439 shipped, but the price went up recently.

you can get that yellow take down piece with a finger or the directions say use the pin that holds the backstrap on.

I would certainly say that on a concealed carry piece that would be in contact with the skin more than likely would certianly hold up better if it was stainless. My M&P is 4 years old and looks as good as the day we got it even after 4 years of use at the lease in a bianchi holster. I've had two glocks they were just fine, but the M&P sure fits the hand nice and the stainless slide really is a positive addition.

I'm feeling pretty good about is so far. I'm thinking of stepping up from the C(concealed) model to the next size up.

I have noticed you can pick them up pretty cheap used. I have seen them for 375.00 a couple times.

You may need to bring up some documentation, because unless you got a pre-release gun, I don't believe the M&P line is 4 years old. I have never seen any real corrosion issues with the Tenifer* or whatever glock's metal treatment is. The process is the same for the XD, and I've seen no issues on those with the treatment either.

Small oversight. Doesn't seem quite as impressive when the numbers aren't pulled out of your ass.

Are you specifically looking for a DAO pistol?

If you're gonna go with the 9MM, why not get an XD Subcompact? If you want to stay with the .45 ACP, you could go with the XD compact.

For .45 ACP, you could also go with the Springfield GI MIL-SPEC Micro. That would be a small 1911 like the Kimber Ultra you shot.

For a couple hundred more, you could get the Kimber Ultra Carry .45 ACP and it has several upgrades over the SA Micro.

I would also consider magazines, holsters and accessories. What options are available?

Just throwing out ideas but I pulled these prices off the web. You have a lot of choices and at least 4-6 weeks before your license gets in so you can afford to be picky.

SPRINGFIELD GI MIL-SPEC MICRO 45ACP FC $549.00 (Buds)
SPRINGFIELD XD45 COMPACT 4" BLACK 10RD 45ACP $504.00 (Buds)
SPRINGFIELD XD45 COMPACT 4" BITONE 10RD 45ACP $556.00 (Buds)
S&W M&P9C 9mm 3.5 Black $519.00 (Buds)
KIMBER ULTRA CARRY II 45AP $767.68 (Buds)
