If the zombies struck today......

Would you be prepared?

I just did a quick inventory and came up with:

11,400 rds .223/5.56mm
90 30rd magazines

8,680 rds 7.62x39mm (including a tin of 640 armor piercing rounds)
1 75rd drum, 2 40rd mags, 4 30rd mags

1,000 rds 12 ga (assorted bird shot/00 buck/slugs)

1,200 rds .357 Magnum
300 rds .38 +P

500 rds .308 168gn HPBT Match

300 rds .17 HMR

14,000 rds .22 LR

100 rds .44 Magnum

If I run out, the last round is saved for me.....

Oh, and my safe weighs 1,000 lbs empty. Good luck moving this damn thing loaded down. You'd have to be the friggin Hulk to move it. Good thing it's lagged to the wall....

Here's just a partial pic. Most of the AR & AK ammo is in another location because it's too damn much to put in the safe. It's all in 1,000 round cases or the 640 rd ammo tins....

I do have the 13 battlepacks of 300rds South African .223 in the bottom right though.

damn, how much would all that ammo cost? like a rough estimate. I am referring to what the first guy said who made the post. That seems like a shit ton of bullets.

all i got is a sawed off 12 gauge and about 5 shells for it.

Rough estimate in today's prices?

About $7-8k worth.

Just the South African .223 is going for $150 per battlepack. That's $1950 worth just right there.

All that stuff if just going to get you killed if the zombies came. They are attracted to noise and before long you would shoot enough of them that they would pretty much be able to crawl over themselves to get over any sort of wall or barrier you had put up. Regardless, the force of them would push over any chain link fence or wall. The best weapon to have if the zombies came would be a kitana sword and maybe a sidearm with a few hundred rounds if you really got in a bind.

Best something in Texas.... just don't know what it is yet....

You should read

Also Buddy and mine have started a zombie survival group called DFW Zombie Hunters Coalition....We are a small group only 5 of us so far...but we know what is coming....This website is great for source of info http://zombiehunters.org/forum/

If anyone is a real believer of what is going to happen let me know...We do get together to discuss plans and what not : )...gun cleaning parties while watching zombie movies ...good fun ...we are good and paranoid about it ...

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

Its an amusing subject but if you want a book that treats the idea seriously, read World War Z by Max Brooks. It is an analysis of what would probably happen. Everything from the general panic of the public, to government downplaying, shysters selling cures, to the aftermath. Basically, modern small unit tactics would be useless and a black powder style line or square formation would be more appropriate with the goal being a constant volume of accurate fire. I heard about the book and never expected it to be all that good but it was pretty suprising given the subject.

As for ammo, I really don't have all that much at the moment.

Ive always been a supporter of buying a can that's specifically works for the platform. But it's also what your budget allows.

People do use .223 cans for .22s. Personally, I think they look awkward when on rifles and you couldnt use them on a pistol easily, if at all.

I have 2 friends that have fully suppressed Ruger Mark VII pistols, they are cool as hell.

Then there's the guy that has the full auto fully suppressed 10/22. That is the COOLEST gun!

It's ultimately a mistake to use firearms as your primary method of zombie disposal in a Z-apocalypse. They can't use guns, so there's no need to waste precious ammo on a task that doesn't require it. Aside from getting out of tight spots in a hurry, your best weapons are going to be big crowbars, sledgehammers, and fireman's axes. These serve the dual purpose of being able to dispatch a zombie without wasting a round, and allowing access to any buildings you may need to enter. Ammo is best saved for hunting purposes, especially .22's, as large fauna is likely to be gone quickly, while small game can get into trees more readily to escape the zombies, and is thus more likely to be plentiful in a given area. While on the move, for sure small game hunting > large game hunting. The trick to working a large group of zombies with a hand weapon, btw, is staying moving and working steadily, not quickly.

Give me a dollar.

Just got married a year ago, still not much wiggle room in the budget I want one for my rifle and if i can use it for the occasional .22 why not? I more than likely will buy a 10/22 to use it on mostly or run a .22 conversion in my ar. But if i do buy another .22 pistol is gona be a sig mosquito . I like the idea of a full size .22, I had a p22 for a while and wasnt really in love with it due to the small size.

You know, I'm kind of annoyed with that movie, but I'll try to keep it simple. For these guys, I don't see why he didn't build a better compound, and raid ever solar panel available. Why not demolish as many empty buildings as possible? Why not build a stone fort or take over a poured concrete building with steel doors? Why stay in that bullshit Cosby Show neighborhood? He had a ton of time, and could've just started burning the buildings down, one area at a time. Sure, they were fast and strong, but since they're not really undead, they'd be skinny because they were starving, so he'd be stronger and faster, presumably. I'd have then marshalled my fuel and taken day trips to build supply caches on the way to somewhere more managable. If the safe zone is in VT, you can totally make that drive in a couple of hours. He could've made the safe zone at any time. He could've gotten his whole lab up there and kept working within a couple of months. The novella by Robert Preston resolves a lot of these issues, and makes for a more compelling story. The real Z scenario that should worry you is the "Rager" scenario from the 28 Days/Weeks Later movies. The weaponized virus is potent as shit, and very few people would be immune to it. Even fewer of those immune would be likely to know much about escape and evasion, or fieldcraft in general. If a real slate-wiping virus ever does show up, we're fucked and then some, lol.

Give me a dollar.
