I've got two. Both cheap and sturdy. One's a Mantis

the other is a CRKT

Just make sure they're single edge.

Chapter 46, Texas Penal Code defines "Illegal Knife" as:

(6) "Illegal knife" means a:

(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;

(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;

(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk, stiletto, and poniard;

(D) bowie knife;

(E) sword; or

(F) spear.

Stay away from those, and you should be good. Oh, and a dirk/stiletto/poinard is like saying "double eged".

Also, stay away from any type of switchblade:

(11) "Switchblade knife" means any knife that has a blade that folds, closes, or retracts into the handle or sheath, and that:

(A) opens automatically by pressure applied to a button or other device located on the handle; or

(B) opens or releases a blade from the handle or sheath by the force of gravity or by the application of centrifugal force.

what kind of trouble would you get into, if you were to get caught with an auto knife? Is it a slap on the wrist, or felony?

are most double edged?

but most of the laws are made for some reason or another, like why is 5 1/2 inches the point at which they be come illegal, why not 5?

but honestly, i do not know, i just wanted to post in a thread about knives. i don't think i have had the chance to do that in the 7.5 i have been on this site.

it's a silly law... you can buy Kershaw assisted open knives at WalMart that open just as fast as a pushbutton.

I DON'T carry my double sided OTF Benchmade though

No, butterfly knives are normally single edged, although some are double.
the 5.5" thing, I could only think was that at some point hunting knives were commonly 5" so they were trying to encompass anything larger than a common hunting knife. Who knows.
Forrest, don't forget that some well designed normal knives will open virtually as fast as the torsion kershaws or the spring loaded autos.

I was talking about your reference to the kershaws being as fast as automatics.

Sec.A46.02.AAUNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS.A (a)AAA person
commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or
recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal
knife, or club if the person is not:
(1)AAon the person ís own premises or premises under the
person ís control; or
(2)AAinside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle
that is owned by the person or under the person ís control.
(a-1)AAA person commits an offense if the person
intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or
her person a handgun in a motor vehicle that is owned by the person
or under the person ís control at any time in which:
(1)AAthe handgun is in plain view; or
(2)AAthe person is:
(A)AAengaged in criminal activity, other than a
Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance
regulating traffic;
(B)AAprohibited by law from possessing a firearm;
or
(C)AAa member of a criminal street gang, as
defined by Section 71.01.
(a-2)AAFor purposes of this section, "premises" includes
real property and a recreational vehicle that is being used as
living quarters, regardless of whether that use is temporary or
permanent. In this subsection, "recreational vehicle" means a motor
vehicle primarily designed as temporary living quarters or a
vehicle that contains temporary living quarters and is designed to
be towed by a motor vehicle. The term includes a travel trailer,
camping trailer, truck camper, motor home, and horse trailer with
living quarters.
(b)AAExcept as provided by Subsection (c), an offense under
this section is a Class A misdemeanor.
(c)AAAn offense under this section is a felony of the third
degree if the offense is committed on any premises licensed or
issued a permit by this state for the sale of alcoholic beverages.

So, basically it's a Class A Misdomeanor, 1 year in county jail/$4,000 max fine.

Based on the way that law reads, my Kershaw is illegal

And how does Mr. Flipflop know jackshit about boot weaponry?
