What do you have for an elephant gun? Ill bet it isnt a true "elephant gun" per say.

Most of the old 600 nitro express guns and stuff were SxS

How about a double rifle in .700 H&H Nitro Express?

Quote:
Single factory loaded .700 Nitro cartridges are available, typically at $100 each
The gun itself can be yours for ~$60,000.

It would have to be registered as a destructive device.

My dad took his Elephant with a SxS but I dont recall the caliber. Alot of the outfitters I know overseas carry SxS when hunting dangerous game.

Various Nitro Express, 505 Gibbs, 500 Jeffery's are common chamber for double rifles. They are high dollar. They are all custom. Haven't heard of any major production of any of these calibers.

I think the Nitro Express cartridges are rimmed like a 30-30. 470 NE, 500 NE, 505 Gibbs are about 10-20$ a round.

I picked up a Norma PH (professional hunter) brochure. Pretty awesome energy of these big calibers. Gives really good ballistic comparison of the big calibers. 375H&H 350gr is the smallest in the booklet.

I've seen a slug removed from a bull moose that was 500gr .458 Win Mag. Big slug. But just the bottom end of these double rifles.

You can get a CZ 550 in 458 Lott for ~900$. It shoots .458 Win Mag with about 300 extra fps. Of course there is the 460 Weatherby.

Around Christmas, there was a 700 H&H at Cabela's in the gun room.

I've shot quite a few double guns. I haven't been to Africa or anywhere to use them on big animals though. Just getting them ready for customers. I have shot some turtles with a 470 Nitro though. Pretty neat.

I'll try and take a couple pics of the 470 and 500 NE we have at the shop.

You can get 45-70 barrel inserts for Baikal's side-by-side 12gage. Kind of a poor man's double rifle.

In Europe, especially in Germany, rifles with multiple barrels in diferent calibers used to be very popular.
