Muzzle Flash 10mm be damned!

Something I was experimenting with, I was shooting in low/artificial light the other day, I won't use my Desert Eagle or any other 44 or 357 magnum, in low light, as a matter of fact, the .40 my brother has was as bad as the 357 magnum in muzzle flash, I shot 38 spl, 9mm, 40, 45acp, 3 44 magnums, 357 magnum, and a 21 inch barreled 12 gauge.
in reverse order worse to least.. 44 magnum, 71/2 barreled super blackhawk, 44 magnum, 6 inch barreled redhawk, 44 magnum desert eagle, Sig .40, 357 magnum, 4 inch barrel GP100, Para Ordnance BigHawg, 45 acp, 38 spl +P, GP100, 9mm ruger P85, 12 gauge open choke #6 game loads, (also most damage to target at 15 yards.
The muzzle flash of the first 5 pistols will keep you from getting a quick second AIMED shot. It gives you a flare that kills your vision for 2-3 seconds minimum.
I'm sold, shotgun..... quick second shot out of the second barrel was very easy. sorta like a blue puff out of the muzzle.
I'm actually gonna re do it on video and make a short Youtube type short movie on why I choose what I choose for home defense.

The Federal personal defense loads in the clear plastic boxes are loaded with a "low recoil, low flash" powder. Give some of them a shot, it's usually a pretty decent difference.

I've never shot it at night, but my .445 SuperMag (a longer .44 Magnum cartridge) with 8" barrel and about 30 grains of H110 and a 240 grain SJHP makes a niiiiiiice fireball.

The only time I've had a problem with muzzle flash is when shooting cheap ass Blazer or Wolf ammo. Coincidentally the only time I've ever had feeding problems is with cheap ass Blazer ammo and tons of powder residue.

I used to have a G33 in .357 sig
rediculous fireball.
It was like you say , hard to even make a quick followup AIMed shot.

small barrel , high velocity, too much recoil also.
bad combination IMO.

I never really though about how bad it would be inside a house / dark ...in a defensive situation.
Just blast away I figured.
No wonder my neighbors hate me. They might catch a stray on accident!

I;ll have to double think testing some more at night , like a bed side pistol.

Some of the self-defense ammo advertises as low-flash.

H110(W296) is a magnum revolver powder with lots of flash/smoke.

If ya'll hear of any low flash powder avail. to reloaders, please let me know.

Clays and Bullseye are supposed to be low flash, but don't know if they will work in 10mm.

Haha, I'm sure they will, but probably not very well.

Bullseye was on the list of powder for 10mm 180gr JHP at 1125fps Alliant data site.

http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloade...23&bulletid=73

I looked up some ammo for 10mm 180gr and velocity was from ~1000 - ~1350fps.
http://www.midwayusa.com

Power Pistol was another powder in their data at 1240fps. I use this for .45ACP loads.

~1350 at 180gr is close to .41 magnum factory loads. However my hot loads are 210gr at 1650fps(22.3gr H110).

I'm getting 1,450 fps with Longshot and a 155 grain XTP (~720 fpe) out of my Glock 29, still working my way up. My .41 Magnum is currently 1420 fps and 1460 fps with a 210 grain XTP (940 fpe, 1,000 fpe) with H110 and Lil' Gun, still working those up. Of course, the .41 Magnum has twice the barrel as the 10mm, but I'm going to be getting a 6" KKM .45-10mm conversion barrel for my Glock 21 soon enough.

Can you train your eyes to tune out the flare?

No. You could try blinking as you pulled the trigger.

Try blue dot with a 300gr bullet, it will make a heck of a fireball.

close one of your eyes when you're firing at night to not lose your night vision for the second shot. The third shot is going to be a problem though, but if you miss the first two, might as well empty the flip while screaming down your hallway T2 style, if you can't hit him, scare the shit out of him.
