Best place to buy an AR online?

The two places I've looked online to buy uppers and/or lowers are in Texas, which means I'll have to pay tax. I want to buy a complete upper and a complete lower, or maybe even break it down to smaller parts and build them up myself.

What online stores would you recommend?

Buy a stripped lower, then order a parts kit

I got my lower from Lonestar Wholesale, and my "kit" from MAPartsinc.com, shipped in 1 day!

My lower was $120(Armalite/eagle), and 16" midlength, 1:9, flat top upper, shorty LE stock, and green furniture was $515(shipped)

I also bought a carry handle($35-100)

So, $670-735ish for a complete rifle.

If you just want something cheap, CMMG's bargin bin is great, $570 for a rifle(usually DPMS builds, or used to be) +$25FFL and shipping, not bad...

What did tax and shipping run you on the lower from Lonestar Wholesale? That still had to go through an FFL, didn't it?

Just tax, no shipping, picked it up at a gunshow.
I believe with tax it was $127...

Dont quote me, but I believe with a CHL it also speeds up your paperwork at the gunshow when buying...

It gets rid of the call in check.

Only reason why I got mine.

I realize all that. But the next gun show in Fort Worth isn't until May and I'm not sure I want to drive out to the one in Dallas. It would cost me more than to just mail order it all.

Not really, $25for an FFL fee(and$5-10 shipping) is more than the $10 in gas it will cost you to drive out there

Plus, its worth it, the Dallas show is one of the best IMO...

Just evaluating my options at the comfort of my desk at work. There's a certain amount of satisfaction when I get to say I built my AR for xxx dollars.

There's an FFL in Benbrook (maybe 5-10 mins from me) that charges $10.

If I don't find anything good online in the next week or so, then I'll consider the drive to Dallas. For now, I want to investigate mail ordering the pieces.

This is what my friend Matt told me when I asked the same question:
Quote:
I ordered the lower from:
http://www.anvilarms.com/ for $263 shipped

The upper from:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=22&t=143647 for $489 shipped

And the grip from Midway USA:

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...828&t=11082005 for about $17 shipped

it was $769 total.

I've been looking at a CMMG Bargain Bin 16" M4 for $582 + FFL
http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/...054504&cat=33&
I think I would have to pay the 11% Federal Excise Tax though. That would bring it to about $640, unless that price already includes the tax. I sent them an email to confirm.

So here's my deal to beat for now. $615 + FFL
Del-ton rifle kit (everything but the lower receiver) $485 shipped
http://www.del-ton.com/Rifle_Kit_p/rkt104.htm

DPMS stripped lower receiver $130 shipped plus FFL
http://www.del-ton.com/DPMS_Lower_Receiver_p/lr1000.htm

I'm not too worried about getting the brand name stuff right now. It's going to be a plinking rifle. Not something I'm going carry into a combat zone.

Why not go with Lonestar. The prices are better.

I had a custom image laser engraved into the lower, and didn't have to pay tax.

Holy crap! That makes life so much easier!

I just called them. $109 + tax for a Stag or CMMG receiver. I can walk in and have one in 10 minutes. Add that to the $485 Del-ton rifle kit and I have a working AR for under $600!

Thanks!!!

Thats exactly what I did late last year. Socking away some overtime right now to get 1 or 2 more before November elections just in case the the Bro or Hoe get elected.
