Rock Island 1911?

I've came across a Rock Island 1911 in 45acp thats in damn near excellent condition at a local pawn shop for $300. Now, i have no clue when it comes to 1911 makers, but I did hold the gun "which felt like sex in my hands btw", slid the action and checked the barrel and everything seems to be in working order. SO would $300 be in the ballpark for a used Rock Island 1911?

Tell me which pawnshop. If you don't get it, I will.

I miss mine so which pawn shop did you find it at? They make great guns to build on. Add a beaver tail safety to avoid slide bite and a good set of sights and you are finished.

I picked it up at alittle pawn shop in Lockhart "30mins SW of Austin" but the owner had some other cool shit on the wall like a 45-70 Sharps and a Remington Model 8 in 32Rem, so i think i might just be going back there again to pick a few more shooters up.

http://www.classicarms.us/ used to have them new for $275ish, IIRC, but by the time you pay shipping and a transfer fee, $320 would be about right. They're not on the site anymore, so he must have sold out. I check that site fairly often to see if gets any more Saiga 308s in . (The .410 for that cheap is tempting too!) He's got the best prices I've seen on a lot of stuff.

I did a lot of research on them at the time, and everyone said they were great starter 1911s.

Ya, but things like "SAIGA... .308 CAL......16.3"BBL... SYN....$329.95" make it worth putting up with...

They want $450 for *used* ones at the gun shows!

He has really good prices on stuff and always has something interesting. The chrome stuff I could do without. (He chromed a bunch of the slides on the Rock Island .45s and the two-tone actually looked pretty good ) The Chome AKs and Mosins make me ill though. Kinda like chroming a shovel...

I've always kind of wondered what a chromed AK would look like.

I've had my Rock Island for awhile now, and love it. It has never jammed, been fairly accurate, and just a good gun to shoot. My only "gripe" is the sights, but those are easy to get taken care of.
