Are you wanting to build one, or buy one complete?

Cheapest route is picking up a stripped lower and buying a "kit"....(If you care about the parts) If not a bulk-bin cheapie might work for you...

I'm thinking about going that route as well. I want to build an M4, but I want to do it from scratch. I've got a couple of bolts laying around already that I acquired (with the springs, pins, rest of inners) so I just need the extrenal shit.

Even though you have the extra parts, it still may be cheaper to order a "kit".
Ive been pricing stuff lately and the cheapest Ive found(and way to get the lower I want) is to just buy a stripped lower(~$100-150) and then you can buy the kits in whichever length/twist/A1/A2/etc upper you want, usually for arond $460-575+, just depends on options. Im looking for a 16" midlength 5.56 1:9twist and so far im seeing prices from $460-500(plus shipping)

And just FYI if someone doesnt know, all you need to buy either at a gunshow or dealer, or shipped to an FFL is the lower, the rest can be gotten mail order straight to your door.

I was looking online earlier and saw some complete uppers with assembled bolts and everything for around $450ish. I've got all of the internals I need for the upper reciever. I would just need the reciever itself, the lower reciever, buttstock, and whatever handguards I need.

And I find it odd that the lower would have to be purchased at a gun show or delivered to an FFL since the upper is the portion with the barrel and all.

Yep, the lower is considered the "gun", the rest is all mail order-able

I bought a complete upper and then a lower and parts kit from Del-Ton earlier this year and with some prodding from board members here built it. It was cake.
