My Boy!!!!

Well, it seems anybody can kill a deer, my 7 yr old son drilled a hole between this does eyes at 120 yds.... don't tell me that a 22 hornet ain't enough gun for a deer. I tied a feedbag over her head so the sensitive types won't get offended.

Good kill for the kid!

22Hornet can't kill deer or hogs. My grandfather didn't kill tons of deer in OK and CA with one.

Oh and forget the tree huggers. If they start that crap here I will delete them

Thanks guys, He is still walking on cloud 9..... He was growing really frustrated watching several Bucks come and go, I think we saw like 12 different bucks Friday, and I didn't try to count the Does, but finally a single doe came in around 4 that afternoon. It took a couple of minutes to get him situated and calmed down, but he was a real trooper, took a deep breath, relaxed, let it about halfway out and gently squoze the trigger. I was watching through the binos and saw her head snap back and she just collapsed...... I was elated!!!!
It may just be a 45 grain JHP, but it will kill anything in Texas when it hits them between the eyes.... The bullet actually entered her right nostril, and exited the left side of her head below the ear. Logan can shoot 10 shots I cover with a quarter at 100 yards..... The gun is sub MOA.
WW for the squeamish.......

Allan, this guy's a douchebag. Can you ban people from subforums? I'll buy you a 6'er.

Read again, 22 Hornet...... not a 22 long rifle.

A .22 is a .22; they're all .22" in diameter.

This season:

My dad shot a medium sized Texas white tail buck with .22-250 with 50-55gr Hornady V-Max. It's legs fell out from under it and did not get up. It was dead by the time he walked the ~90 yards to it. It was a heart/lung shot.

Another hunter in our group shot a smallish doe, at short range, with a 7mm Mag with a somewhat low heart/lung shot and the dear ran into the woods. He found it still alive but with a fist-sized exit wound. He had to drag it 70 yards out of the woods.

My dad lost no meat with the buck. With the doe, some of the meat was lost.

120 yard head shot is really good.

IMHO: It's about shot placement.

Great shot for your kid!
Congrats.

I forget what a .22 hornet is , but if it is a .22 rimfire I would be aware I think hunting deer with anything other than centerfire is illegal in Texas.

As usual ,shot placement is everything, and I applaude you have taught that skill to your youngin so well already. Great take!

The .22 Hornet (centerfire)falls somewhere in between the .22 mag and the .222/.223 Rem.
