So I just called the campus police regarding a batf form 4

Upon discovering that the police on campus are real cops commisioned by the state of texas, I thought It may work to my advantage. I called them up and asked to speak to the chief law enforcement officer and they patched me through.

First off I asked if we were allowed to check firearms with them, to which he responded yes and BSed with me about what I would be checking. At this point I figured I would ask him if he would help me out with my BATF form 4. Upon me asking, he had no idea what I was talking about and asked me what it was. I beat around the bush for a while and kept saying it was neccesary for the transfer of a specific shotgun I have had my eye on (serbu shorty). He told me he would take a look at it if I set up an appointment with him!

Im not sure howeve if the ATF would accept his signature or not though.

(sorry for typos or bad punctation, posting from phone)

As long as he has jurisdiction in the city and or county in which you reside in they should accept it.

A campus cop in texas has jurisdiction in just about every county in Texas. Little known fact.

Just every county that holds a campus. But in all reality, any commissioned police officer through the state of Texas can work in official status within the state.

And ya... campus police, hospital police, DART police, etc. are commissioned officers or they wouldn't be called police. At least they shouldn't, lawfully.

Exactly, thus one must still reside, in the county for this matter, in which the CLEO has jurisdiction over them.

That is a good point. Dorms are not necessarily permanent residences.

Dorms or whatever could be considered permannet residences. Same ways GIs who "reside" in Cali, but "live" in Texas can buy silencers/MGs/SBRs etc.

I see

How does one euphemistically state to the CLEO, "hey man, can you sign this so I can pick up my machine gun". I assume you just schedule a date and explain your reasons (investment purposes, collector, etc.)?

JUst set up an appointment and tell them you need them to sign an ATF form for the purchase of a firearm.

I dont know how you're wanting to carry it. But as long as you pay the $5 tax and follow all the necessary NFA rules for trusts or signoffs etc. You can "carry" any way you want by any legal means.

So could you throw your m60 in your truck and drive cross-country? I think theres some gray area on NFA concealment and whatnot.

Also, I've always wondered does one need a CHL to carry a pistol if its not concealed? Like could a guy walk around Texas ranger style with a six shooter on his belt exposed if he so desired? Could you brandish a rifle in this fashion if not a pistol?

It would vary by state laws. I could mount the M60 in my daily pick up truck and drive it all around Texas since Texas really has no provisional laws regarding rifles or shotguns and how one can carry or transport them. Problem one would face would be are you causing public alarm. NFA firearms dont have their own laws except for possession, sales, and transportation across state lines (requires a 5320.20 to be filed with the ATF)

In Texas one cannot open carry a pistol. But one can carry a rifle and shoygun around, but that whole public alarm thing comes into play.

I gotcha. Good to know I could walk down my street with my old marlin 60 slung over my shoulder and not be breaking the law.

Probably not, but even if I was wouldn't it only be a class c misdemeanor?

Class B

And no way in hell Id open carry a rifle these days whether I knew the town or not. I've already had the cops called me enough times along with my father to know that to many people out there are paranoid/scared/unaware/whatever, that they will call the cops and if it becomes a nuisance they will say or do something about you.

Capps, are you looking for the Campus police to do this for you since you know there isn't a single cop in Coppell that will sign that BATF for you?
