I consider the wildcat a trick play in a way. But, you can't say they don't work, because you never see them used.
That's my point. There's a reason they're not used. I've always said the biggest difference between college and NFL is defense. Not to say they would NEVER work, just a very small chance that's not worth the try in a cut-throat league. I can see one out of desperation in a big game but that's the only situation I can see one being tried.
Then every play that shows run but ends up being a pass is a trick play and vice versa? Deception is the name of the game.
I agree with that as well. For instance, the big first down from Favre to Berrian yesterday in OT. Play was called as a run, showed run, but Favre and Berrian were tuned in to the whereabouts of the safety, so Berrian ran a short slant route and gained 20+. Nobody else on the Viking offense even knew what was going on. Favre didn't audible. The guards pulled as they should have pulled for a run to the left, etc. Only Favre and Berrian knew what was about to happen.
