Getting hit..

Getting hit by a belt sucks..

but it's so worth it.

You either get it, or you don't.

Yes sir. I've been told by many senior students that blue and brown are the hardest ranks to achieve in BJJ.

Blue because of the notorious learning curve and getting into shape. Getting smashed by everyone for 2 years take serious dedication and want to learn. lol.

Yup, I rolled last night. Rolled with every single person in class and only got tapped once and that was by Shannon of course. He also was hitting me with his belt in the process. lol..so humbling.

Knee is doing alot better. I'm still learning what I can and can't do right now. Working my guard alot, transitioning well even though I'm abit nervous at times, but I'm dealing with it. It's not like I can hurt my ACL any worse, it's not even attached! lol.

How are you doing? Feeling ok?

Not sure yet. Won't make any decisions on that until at least January. Which seminars?

Next friday night Orlando Waugh is doing a spider guard seminar. In December 4 time world champ Bruno bastos is doing a 1/2 guard seminar.

Went to a no gi open guard seminar that Bruno did this Saturday and it was awesome.

Did you learn how to defend the 'power out of it' move?

Congrats on the belt test...

Very cool! You learn anything that will fit in your game?

LMAO, Henry, you have no idea how much better my ground game has gotten. "If" it were to happen again today, it would be a very ugly situation to say the least. I train with real fighters on a regular basis and submit them. So dealing with guys who aren't used to ground fighting is SO ridiculously easy now it's silly.

Yep. Bruno really breaks down things that are simple and actually work. Has a great philosophy for why he does things as well.

I didn't read all the posts, but I just wanted to say that if you don't like getting hit by a belt, don't piss your parents off.

I only wish my parents were kind enough to use a belt instead of what was used.

Steve, congrats. Get your knee fixed as it will cause you problems down the road. Find an orthopedist that fixes a lot of knees for athletes. They will have the PT program that gets you back on the mat the fastest.

Thanks Doc. I have to wait until January to have surgery, so that will give me plenty of time to find a doctor IF I decide to do it.

What I'm about to say is not directed at you so please dont take it the wrong way.

I've come to the realization that rank in bjj for the most part is meaningless. It's been so watered down I find it funny. I think some instructors are now more concerned with student retention as opposed to keeping the sport pure. A few years ago blue belt took dedication, now your check just has to clear.

Like I said, this rant is not about you. I've read how hard you've worked for it and you deserve it.

This has become true unfortunatly. After my son did 14 months doing BJJ, the last 4 months I noticed he was getting chunky again, went to a session and noticed that the original instructor(s) were not teaching, instead it had turned into a mcdojo being run by kids. I took him out and took him to Saekson Janjiras place in Plano, he has been going for almost a year and is only a yellow/white, the first three months he was going every single day (mon-sat) when school started he went to 3 days a week, that has been the schedule for the rest of this entire year. At Saeksons place you have earn what you get no matter how long or how much you pay, lol! After beng there for the first 3 months he lost all his weight and then some and now is becoming a lean and muscular Muay Thai boxer, with some ground skills to go with it.

Yeah he didn't like that to much. He would have really hated it if I could have locked it in all the way. He was a little dizzy after he tapped. God I love triangles
