NFL crackdown on hits
I'm coming from the camp that thinks some players are purposefully going into hits with the intention of causing injury. Spearing, leaping into the air from a full sprint into a stationary WR/TE, targeting the head, etc. I think something needed to be done on the excessive hits to corral it until people really got seriously hurt. Hard hits happen as a part of the game, but its also up to the players to play with focus.
This is where it gets interesting for me:
However, this sundays football game really looked like a bunch of pussies afraid to get their uniforms dirty. Proper defensive hits I'm hoping the the coaches and trainers can help redirect their fear of getting a fine into being able to play aggressively but not get stupid. Some of the players comments give the impression that they've got no control over themselves when they hit the field so rather than play, they'll just let people catch the ball and then try to grab their legs as they go by. (which is probably the most career ender type of tackle due to ankle/knee injuries.)
I'm sure it'll continue to be a topic of debate for the rest of the season if not more, but damn, if the NFL was looking to get the players attention i'm pretty sure they did and more.
