That's terrible. From one angle it looks like he got his head to the side, but hard to tell.

Was the head shaking involuntary or was that all he had?

Not sure...depends on if he was conscious at that time or not...could have been seizure activity or him just trying to "shake it off!" Either way, he has about 7yrs to live...thats the average life expectancy of a quadraplegic.

"The injury brought back memories of the injury to Buffalo Bills tight end Kevin Everett in 2007. He ducked his head tackling Denver's Domenik Hixon during the second-half kickoff in the season opener. He was paralyzed from the neck down and doctors feared he'd never walk again. Everett showed signs of movement days later and began walking by November"

lets just hope he can be this fortunate. such a sad sad story but they tell these guys time and time again not to tackle like that.

We were just talking about this at work.

Does anyone know how his healthcare is paid for? When does Rutgers obligation end? Do they cover everything until he is out of the hospital?

LeGrand's medical expenses are being covered by a $20 million catastrophic insurance policy for student athletes provided by the NCAA.

Pernetti said the policy "as it relates to this type of injury is as comprehensive and as broad as you would see it," including covering the cost of a home renovation if necessary.

I couldn't find any info on whether his spinal cord was severed or not. Several sources did say his injury was deemed "incomplete" but haven't released full details yet.

Holy shit. Is that why everygame I watched today had commentators focus on not hitting with your head? I think it was mentioned in three different games after a player would do so. That sucks. Best wishes to him and his family.

Christopher Reeve had a Hangman's injury and lived 9 years. Legrand has a chance. Maybe he'll be one of the lucky one's like Kevin Everett. These people are never the same people they once were, but being ambulatory to a degree and avoiding infections is a win. I wish him luck.
