Rangers land HUGE TV deal

Rangers get monster $3 billion TV deal

Things are bigger in Texas, and that includes TV contracts.

Days after clinching their first division title of the century, it was reported by USA Today that the Rangers have signed a 20-year, $3 billion (yes, billion with a B) extension of their deal with Fox Sports Southwest. According to baseball sources, the deal was made shortly after the team changed ownership in August.

Dallas-Fort Worth is the fifth-largest TV market in America, but this is still an enormous contract. The $150 million a year is more than three times what the Dodgers get in the No. 2 market, which is more than twice the size.

So, it looks like we can eliminate the phrase "cash-strapped Rangers" from the baseball vernacular. And with a new whale at the free-agent poker table, the outlook for Cliff Lee staying in the Metroplex looks a whole lot better.

It may seem expensive now...but in 20 years from now, I wonder what TV contracts will be like? Might seem like a bargain then.

With $3,000,000,000, they could've upgraded!

Good. Maybe they will fix the whole problem of sometimes the game is in HD and sometimes it isn't on Fox southwest.

Being the high caliber team the Rangers have become they need to focus on being able to rest the studs of the team to help prevent fatigue and injury. I think we need a better mixture of backup veterans.

Our outfield is solid IMO. Francouer and Murphy solidify the outfield and should be able to rotate to give rest to each other and possibly Hamilton and Cruz. I would like for us to score another mid 20's veteran for back up purposes and get Borbon and Gentry out of the mix.

Our first concern should be 1B. There has to be someone out there that can play a legitimate first base and hit aleast .280 and knock in 80+ rbi's and will become available. Cantu hasn't been what was hoped for and I don't even want to talk about Moreland and Davis.

Our catcher, Molina, is sub par IMO and is only a short term answer to a big problem with nobody behind him that can produce. Ramirez, Treanor, and Teagarden all blow. Catcher's need rest!!

Cristian Guzman doesn't have the range to spell Young or Andrus. That leaves him to spell only Kinsler at his preferred position. Blanco can play 3B but does not have the range to play SS. Esteban German I know nothing about really but it seems like we have 2 backups to spell Kinsler and possibly 1 to backup Young which means no answer to saving the legs of Andrus even though he is young.

I think that if anything is to be learned from this season thus far....it is that it is a long season and people need rest. Injuries are a probability and you have to be prepared and have someone to step up and produce. I would like for them to be more aggressive on the bases as they have the personnel to do so but I think they are playing soft to stay healthy.

This is all a little premature I know....but it is something that I feel is what has been hindering them all year.
