I'm not as surprised by the Chiefs being 3-0 as I am that their draft picks are actually contributing positively and making game changing plays as well as their defense actually making critical plays when they have to be made. Overall they've picked horribly over the past 5+ years in the draft(Thanks Carl Peterson) and I actually thought they did a fair job this year(Nicely done Scott Pioli) with the available talent in the draft. However, they "could" easily be 1-2 had it not been for Flowers pick-6 in game 2 and that kick returned for a TD in game 1. Until yesterday, their special teams play was winning them games. I know the 49ers are at the bottom of the heap, but putting up 31 and only allowing 10(7 in the reaming few minutes of play) to a team that looked like they were going to take down the SB champs last week has to count for something. I like what I've seen out of their rookie TE Moeaki. I think he could be polished into a near Tony Gonzalez type TE down the road. McCluster will find a solid spot in the line-up once they figure out what his niche is going to be. If Todd Haley would quit trying to be a hardass, I think they would get more yardage on the ground with Charles in the backfield as the starter. He proved last year that he has what it takes when LJ finally got the boot. Seems Haley is easy to be confrontational and then bench a guy or put him 2nd or 3rd in the depth chart in trying to prove he's in charge. All that said, let's not forget they are closer to the light side on SOS.
I don't know what's worse, the Chargers looking miserable, or the fact that every broadcaster and analyst single handily blames their losses on not having Vincent Jackson. I know the guy is good, but they have other big play makers on the team as well as a few newly acquired players that should be able to handle the load. I'm not saying they should be winning every game, but let's not place all the blame on one guy being gone, especially when you're supposed to be a high powered offense in what most see as being in 1 of the 2 weakest divisions in the NFL.
Now that we've seen the Steeler win with multiple QB's, it will be interesting to see how they fair on offense with Rosie back in 2 weeks. I'm going to go ahead and say it, if their defense wasn't top notch like it is I have a hard time believing they would be undefeated right now. I think with him coming back the passing game will get a little more respect and in turn Mendenhall will have some bigger games and have better contribution. A lot of people have criticized Mendenhall, but when you have little passing game going teams are just going to keep stacking the box and playing the run. It's hard to break for big gains with 7 or 8 guys blowing the play up damn near every time.
