Week 1 In The NFL?

what caught your eye today? Me was watching the Rams of course and almost pulling out the win. But Bradford looked good as a rookie.

The Calvin Johnson TD that was taken away at the end of the Lions vs. Bears game was a horrible call.

The Texans showed me that they were a playoff team in my mind.

Waiver wire pick ups. Vick, B.Jackson and a couple of WR's to look into.

The Cowboys showed me they are hiring for a right tackle.

seattle showed they weren't the worst team in the league.
indy showed their o-line is bad and their defense is worse. either that or houston looks really good.
sf didn't live up to their new expectations.
green bay won but didn't look amazing like everyone has been claiming.
arizona with derek anderson isn't the worst thing in the world.
vince young looked pretty alright.
it doesn't matter who pittsburgh plays, they will drag you down to their level and the score will be 3-4.
cowboys have a lot of work to do.

Bob Sanders is hurt.... yet again. Get him back in and the defense coalesces.

Pittsburgh actually did a good thing today, even though Dixon sucked. They played Steeler football by running the fucking ball. Granted, the run didn't always work out for them (neither did the passing game for that matter, lol), but it got it done in the long run.

cowboys have a lot of work to do.
They were also out two starting offensive linemen. I'll reserve judgement for now.

Those are the three games I watched today, so that's all I can comment on.

What I learned this week? It's the first week of the season, and to make judgements on who is going to be great and who isn't after only one game is almost as bad as predicting who the good teams are based on pre-season games.

Dallas D looked good, Offense looked a little sluggish. Penalties killed them. I think with Colombo healthy they win that game easy.

Indy looked bad, but this isn't the first time they have started their season off slow, and it's not the first time the Texans have looked great... I still see the Colts in the playoffs and the Texans as a wildcard team.

Dolphins D looked great, Offense looked out of sync at times. Bills are atrocious on offense, but their defense is decent.

Saints looked good at times, and rusty at others. Vikings struggled to do much of anything and Brett Farve showed he still has an arm but missing his stud WR and not being in sync with the rest of the team cost them the game. He looked like a QB who had missed training camp and most of preseason.

Those are the only games I had glimpses of, in the end it's hard to know the contenders from the pretenders this early on. After week 4 we'll know much more.

+1 on the calvin johnson call. whatever the rule change is, they need to change it back. if you catch the ball, hold it without any motion in the ball whatsoever, get two feet, a knee, a hip and a hand down, without losing control, that needs to be a catch.

Other things of interest -

how did Indy's D allow 231 rushing yds to 1 guy?

my browns are still awful (I figured they would be)

Sam Bradford looked pretty good with really no talent around him besides S-Jax

Is the Mike Martz system going to produce like that every week in Chicago? Matt Forte had a big big day and Cutler went for 300+

The NFC West is far and away the worst division in football.

Like an idiot while watching the Bills offense I threw my remote and it bounced off the stand and cracked my LCD screen. Watching Trent Edwards play QB is heart breaking, 12 QB's had more yards in the first quarter then he had in 4. I wouldn't give the Dolphins D too much credit Edwards is just that bad.

Adrian Foster really had a good game, and I think it was more of what Houston did than INdianpolis. Houston just dominated them, and I felt like if they could get a running back that could move the ball then they would be a dangerous team. They already have one of the best passing offenses but now with Foster they can be a complete offense.

Randy Moss also caught my attention after the game with his press conference with saying that he thinks he wont be back in New England next year.

Also the QB situation for the Eagles just took to a turn to the worse. Andy Reid probably dosent want to watch the highlights of Washington lol.m

Mike Shanahan still has the upper hand on Dallas. Basic coaching is very important.

Pete Carroll and the Seahawks looked great! Who was is talking about no name receivers? LOL

New Orleans is going to repeat.

Denver is very disappointing. They had they're chance to win.

Dixon needs to step it up if he wants to fill big bens shoes

Score should have been more like 28-9

Robert Meachem dropped a pass in the end zone and also Devery Henderson dropped a pass that could have gone into the end zone.

Defense was pretty solid, but plenty of room for improvements of course.

Drew Brees put the ball right on the money every time.

Sean Peyton is still a whiz with the offense.

I agree... it's hard to tell too much this early on. I was impressed on how well they limited the rushing attack of the Bills. I was expecting to see alot more of CJ Spiller, but they were in the back field 9 times out of 10.

I didn't get to see any of the Miami game or highlights... How did they look?

I figured they sucked it up considering they played the Buffalo Bills and could barely get a touchdown.

I think I stated it in a previous thread... Pete doesn't care too much about Housh because he just simply wasn't producing like he should have for the money he was getting... Williams was more then happy to replace Housh! Especially after being gone from the NFL for a while and having chemistry with Carroll.

Mike Williams has been in the league since 2005 and has only started 8 games. Horrible!

Correct.

People are sleeping on these USC receivers..

WR - Steve Smith - NYG
WR - Dwayne Jarret - Carolina
WR - Mike Williams - Seattle

Offense looked good in the first half, but they seemed to have trouble sustaining long drives. Marshall had alot of balls thrown to him, but he needs a couple more games with Henne to work out the timing and chemistry.

Defense was lights out. They kept after Edwards and the running game for the Bills was extremely limited.
